  • Guess it depends on how much you would like to spend. How about an hours karting at a local kart track, tickets to a fav musician of his (or vouchers for online use at ticketmaster or other suitable website eg. firebox, play.com.)

Has he got a website. Could you offer to buy him a website name and hosting for a year. What about a mag subscription. We've just bought my 15yr old stepson some wireless bluetooth headphones (about £20 I think.)

HTH. Difficult to know what to suggest. What sort of things is he into? What are his interests and do you have a budget?

Our DS1 had his 16th birthday a couple of weeks ago and we got him a silver chain (cost about £100).

He never asked for it or expressed an interest in jewellery, however I thought it would be a special present for his 16th - and I don't think he has hardly had it from round his neck since he got it!

You could buy him Adobe Photoshop (there is a new version out - CS3) or you could get him Adobe Photoshop Elements, which is simpler and costs less - that is an excellent software for editing photos and producing professional images with special effects.

Another idea is to buy him a graphics tablet, so that he can draw freehand with a stylus and input the result into the PC - a great way to use art and computer skills together! There are many types but here's a link to an educational site where it is explained quite clearly.

My son is coming up to 17 and also loves paintballing (as do many grown men!) so you won't go wrong with that.
A great gift experience (that would require travel but it is a lot of fun) is zorbing - Lastminute are doing a 2 for 1 offer
You can also buy pre-driving experiences that he might enjoy too. Just search on Google and you will find several.

    Hope these ideas help!

I had a gold signet ring from my Mom & Dad for my 16th. Am still wearing it 47 years later.
    Watch out for the sandbag.

Just give him the money so he can have a night of sex, drugs and booze with his mates.

The memories of turning 16. :)

So 16 is a special birthday now as well? I thinght it was 18 and 21 you learn somthing new everyday.
  • I would agree with cash, let him decide to spend it how he wants on having some fun. Vouchers will make him have to buy a 'thing', but money will let him go to a concert, have a night out with friends or buy the game he 'really wants' but you don't know about.

My parents buy terrible presents. Their heart is in the right place, but most of the time I'd have appreciated the cash to buy what I wanted (especially cos I combine it with money from my grandparents).
