I'm looking to find a good bank or building society so i can take out a mortgage in a few years time, Does anyone know which banks are discharged bankrupt friendly? Don't say nationwide as i'm currently with them and they are bad, every application i make with them is declined lol

I heard Skipton building society is good, Anyone else use them or have any good info about them?

Cheers bigears

Until the BR drops off your credit reports it is going to be quite difficult to get a 'normal' bank account. You could try Barclays, you might have to start with their basic account but there are several people on here who have managed to get upgrades quite easily.

I've been discharged for 7.7 years now lol. Barclays still wont touch me. I tried them already. My CRA reports is spotless as i have been discharged for all those years.... BUT when i went bankrupt i had numerous CC's with various lenders so that's why i'm having a problem, It'll always be on their systems in the background, That's for life. I'm looking for a bank that does not care too much about that, I've read online that SBS is one, But that's just one persons view, i want some more before i try anything.

Ah!! :D Sorry wasn't aware of that.

How much have you applied for and in what time period?

Um! Co-op? First Direct? Um! Hopefully someone can come up with something.

I don't apply to any unless i'm 100% certain to be accepted, so i need peoples input. I'm currently with Nationwide and they are a pain in *** to put it lightly, Everytime i make a application they decline it lol. Even though my banking with them is perfect.. no missed payments, no CCJ's, No bankruptcy now. I haven't applied for anything other then a D.I.P in the past year, this was declined too. it's like banging my head a brick bank wall.

I can see why you are frustrated. Hopefully someone can come up with something for you but I have to say that what someone gets, another quite often won't.

What sort of credit do you have at the moment? Mobile phones etc.

Nationwide loan & credit card & debitcard,
Royal Bank of scotland credit card,
    Capital One credit card.

To get the NW card, loan & debitcard i had to appeal all 3 because they were all declined, then a person actually manually went through my records and they accepted me. It always knackers your credit score though when they decline you.

I tried HSBC and they flattley refused. Was quite embarrassed at the time. Not sure about barclays as they were one of my creditors and dont want to rock that boat. Failing that i have no idea who to try..............

Barclays won't touch me, i tried years ago and they basicly told me to go or they'd unleash the hounds on me :rotfl:

So Nationwide & Barclays are no go's
  • hi Farside

I've had a basic current account with the Co - op bank, and have had it since going BR on 19th May 2009 (see how the date sticks!).

Just did it over the phone.

It's a basic account, a debit card but no cheque book or overdraft. Good online banking service and very helpful (and UK based) customer service team when you ring.

I've been with them since, nearly four years now. Though I have no idea what they might be like for a mortgage application in the future.

    Hope that helps
