Agree with your post, grizzly 1911.
wymondham: re your project, what is the hypothesis behind your project? I would love to hear more about the objectives of what you're hoping to get out of this.
I am unsure , however, what it will achieve.
I don't believe that my MP has to have had a similar background to me, or parents as poor and troubled as mine. I do want someone who will represent my constituency as best they can, and who will look after the Country's best interests in a fair and just way.
Should all our MPs be made to have had an external job or two prior to standing for Parliament? Will it give us better MPs - better like Nadine Dorries? Better like Louise Mensch? David Cameron did work outside Politics prior to becoming an MP.
Should we not allow people who have been privately educated to stand for Parliament?
What is the result you are hoping for, wymondham?0 -
I don't know anything about MP's - who they are and how they came to be representing people's views, so this is just something I thought up it would be an idea to dig a little deeper to see what drives them and how they became a representative rather than someone else... is it do with class, who your parents were and what their beliefs are ... all a bit unknown...
for the record I'm not bothered about people correcting my grammar etc.. nuff said!0 -
Surely it's down to the voter to read the leaflets and do a tiny bit of research before they vote.
Too many people (sheep-le) vote for the same party that their parents and grand parents voted for and give zero thought to the person.
Sadly, too many local party branches blindly accept people parachuted in from London who have absolutely no links with the constituency.
That's how the career politicians with no real life experience get voted in and are then fast tracked to cabinet posts.
It really is about time that the voters thought for themselves instead of blindly following their ancestors!0 -

You capitalized "In" incorrectly and omitted the full stop at the end of your sentence.grizzly1911 wrote: »Not aimed at you but the general tone regarding punctuation.
Does it really matter on a thread such as this?
We know what the OP is getting at.
It's funny that almost all slap downs (slaps down?) about language contain an error of their own. I call it Generali's law.0 -

And the rest.
Actually once grammar and punctuation are downgraded the actual meaning of what is being got at becomes unclear.
This is very obvious reading this and other boards. The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
I use theyworkforyou.com which is quite an interesting tool. Won't give you what you want Wymondham, but is quite handy for anyone looking to track their MP.
FWIW I have written several times to my local MP and he has always been fantastic. I've seen tangible outcomes as a result - ones that don't help me particularly but are great for the people where I live. I've met him a couple of times too at local events and once just on the street and he's very personable, as well as older and with some "outside of Westminster" experience. He comes across as pragmatic and willing to listen to different views. I don't think you can ask for a lot more than that. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Hi All
Just out of interest really, and to clarify their grip of the real world, is there a way of obtaining background info on MP's 'en mass'. In particular it would be good to know....
Some basic information here:-
