Its Granddaughters 5th birthday party on Saturday and me and her sisters are going to make the cupcakes. for a surprise I thought I would overcome my aversion to silicone and make some 'cakepops'.
The moulds have arrived and it just says to put the cake mix in and bake.
dont you have to wash them (the moulds) first? do they benefit from a coat of oil or just use them as is?
please - anyone with any experience of these got any tips?

ITA - give them a wash, make sure they're totally dry and give them a light oiling. First time I used my sillicone bakeware I didn't realise that they needed oiling the first couple of uses (like seasoning a non non-stick saucepan) and my cake came out of it in lumps.
Stuck it all together with icing and ate it anyway, but it wasn't pretty0 -
I found my silicone swiss roll tin left a taste the first time `i used it and i washed it a couple of times beforehand. I have to admit to eyeing up those cake-pop tins but it is a want not a need.....but if I think about it enough I think I can persuade myself........xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
i have a set of silicone cake pop moulds and have never ever made successful ones so any tips anyone has about acutally making them would be greatfully received!0

thank you all so much! my first thought was to wash them and dry thoroughly and oil them - so will definately do this!
I think I had better have a practice go tomorrow - I might have to hand them out to the local kids tho - I dont eat cake and wont let OH have 20 cakepops! I dont suppose that they would stay fresh until Saturday afternoon even tho I intend covering them with chocolate (and sprinkles)!0 -
You could freeze them?Bossymoo

I found some instructions! on the inside of the Recipe strip (helpfully in six different languages).
it says Wash and dry thoroughly before use - the moulds will benefit from a light oiling and dusting with flour before filling with the cake mix.
Why couldnt it say that on the recipe? still doesnt say if you have to do that every time - I am going to assume so!
oh and the party has been cancelled - bad weather on the way and the community hall is on top of a hill which is never gritted!0 -
You might want to have a look at this website:
http://www.bakerella.com/pops-bites/cake-pops/
The 'original' (?) cake pops are actually made from cake crumb mixed with buttercream (or chocolate, cream cheese, cheesecake mix etc.) so don't actually need to be baked in a special mould because you can shape them in your hands.
The website also has lots of great ideas for decorating cake pops as well as other delicious recipes.
