An e-mail I've just received

Don't know if anyone has entered this comp, but I thought I'd share email I received.
Dear Entrants,
This is just a message from Royal Central regarding the competition we are running on our site for a copy of The Royal Family: A Year By Year Chronicle book.
Earlier today, we began receiving a higher volume of entries to our competition which didn't tally with the number of visits we were getting on the site, we investigated it further to find that the IP addresses and location of entry was the same - after investigating possible ways to stem these spam entries, we have drawn a blank. As a result, to prevent damaging the integrity of the competition, we have closed it early with immediate effect.
This does not mean that legitimate entries will be discounted. You can treat the reception of this email as confirmation you're in the final draw (subject to further checks on the final winner).
As a result of this unexpected cutting of our competition, we will be announcing the winner tomorrow (Saturday 12th January 2013) at 12pm Lunch time UK time. The winner will be notified via email once checks have been completed and arrangements for delivery will be made and request for publicity will be made also.
If you have any further questions about the competition or your entry, please email us back, otherwise, good luck!
Many Thanks,
Royal Central Team

Sounds like one of the "pay to enter" mob had a go, that can add 20,000 or more very quickly. Bit surprised the comp runners haven't got/heard of Captcha.0

I got one as well so I posted the email into the original comp thread:

If it has closed early then we have a better chance of winning0 -
Not one I was interested in but thought it worth noting from the site:
Tomorrow (12 January) at 12 noon, we will be choosing a winner at random from the auto-confirmed genuine entires, they will then be notified via email of their win, if they do not reply within 72 hours from dispatch of email, then another winner will be chosen – this would go on until their is a claim. After 72 hours, a party loses their right to claim.
So keep and eye on your email over the weekend if you entered (legitimately lol)!Jo x2007:£5181.09 2008: £6619.70 2009: £4284.49 2010: £5213.14 2011: £4980.62 2012: £3188.52

The winner has been announced here:
Very hearty congratulations to our competition winner, Colin from Nottingham who has won our New Year’s competition. The prize, a copy of ‘The Royal Family: A Year By Year Chronicle Of The House Of Windsor’ will be winging its way to him in the next week.
Thank you to everyone else who legitimately entered the competition. We do sincerely apologise for anyone who intended to enter the competition legitimately but couldn’t due to us having to close the competition early because of spam entries.
We do intend to run further competitions in the future, in the meanwhile we will work on measures to expel spam entries and improve the one-entry-per-person security.Best win ever: Trip to the Galapagos Islands in 20100
