This is Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, audition (making music), premiere (video editing) and lots more, so basically for picture editing.

When these came out they were all worth £250 + each, and the newer versions still are.

You don't necessarily need it no, it is a "helpful to have", moreso if you are interested in design, or making your own movies, posters, magazines, etc..

I think it's up to CS6 at the moment, but this will do way more than what most people could ever dream of using it for. It's an absolute steal if you want to do anything creative on your computer, from video editing to desktop publishing, photography, etc, etc.

Fantastic freebie and I'd highly recommend it. I'm a CS6 user so have no use for it, but it's great if you're new to Photoshop and don't know if you'd like it or use it often. As has been said above, for most amateur photographers, video makers etc, CS2 will do more than you could ever need.

Adobe has confirmed that this is intended only for existing CS2 customers who need to download an activation-free version of the software they already own. See http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57562515-263/adobe-releases-creative-suite-2-for-free/ for example.

Note that this software won't run on the most recent versions of Mac OS X or Windows.

Which would be why I am running it on windows 7?

That's not the latest version of Windows. Windows 8 was released last year.
