TESCO: Have they been fair to me?

Hi all
jist of my story is that I went to purchase TESCO finest oak smoked gammon joint that has been on offer in store for few weeks (and promo labels earlier in week advertised at half price as I bought one prior to today).
The offer was not shown on the shelf, however I remembered the date had shown past christmas.I enquired and the youth was very helpful but said he was unsure about the offer and that customer services conter had advised him that unless I had proof of the offer they couldn't do anything. My receipt from earlier in week only showed gammon joint (not which one or offer price) so I went on phone and showed them it was still currently advertised online at half price.
The customer service lady didn't know what to do but the counter manager came and said the offer must have been withdrawn and I should read the smallprint (of which there was none and I print screened it when I got home)
Was he wrong? I travelled to that store as the 1st one where I'd spent £150 had run out of the gammon
sorry for such a long post- advice please?
many thanks

At 11.38 on a Saturday night after a glass or two of a rather nice red wine I can only give you one piece of advice.

Thanks, very helpful! glad you took time to reply.:T
I was asking for consumer advise rather than complaining and as some of us work unsociable hours I was asking for helpful advise rather than someone with derogatory comments.
Perhaps avoid replying if the wine effects you in such a manner.0 -
There was no need for warwicktiger's rude reply.
Yes, he was wrong. If it was advertised as such, and you can (and seemingly did) provide the evidence, go back and stomp your feet harder. (if it's worth doing!)
EDIT: screen cap and print it from your PC, and shove it under their noses.0 -
Just bypass the customer service desk and go straight to their head office and make a complaint. I'd say your initially asking for help was enough of a warning to them for you to do this without returning to the store to waste time enquiring further.0

I compained about some plates which were clearly marked half price on the isle end, got to the till to be told no the are full price and nothing they could do.
Took a photo of the display in detail, and wrote a complaint to the store, sent a copy to head office and via email.
result.
3 different £50 gift cards for my inconvenience, as the store din't inform customer services and sent an apology, the email response did the same and head office did the same.
plates cost £80 and were honored at 40.
result all round.
cost of complaint 2 stamps and a letter with picture lol0 -
I would write and complain, i know which gammon you mean, looks lovely. If you send of the receipt from the first shop and the receipt of the gammon you have had to buy instead of the half price they'll probably send you a voucher. As for warwicks reply, think people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.... they were also sitting on mse on a saturday night :-P0

The other point to bear in-mind is that the price advertised on-line is irrelevant to the prices/promotionsd in-store.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0

Something nagging at me here. You spent £150 at one Tesco store, then drove to another seeking your Finest oak smoked Gammon joint. How many miles did you drive, and what would have been the saving on the gammon.
PS, sorry for replying late at night again, but yes I agree with you some of us do work unsocial hours even at this time of year.0 -
When the offer was advertised instore there would have been something somewhere that said along the lines of 'we have the right to withdraw this offer at any time'. The prices are often different instore and online.
Your situation is different to Stuart Roberts as if I've got this right the gammon wasn't being advertised as being half price instore.
I remember in nov I got some really nice red wine in tesco half price, the label said the offer was on for another 3 weeks but I went back for more 2 weeks later and the offer was gone, it was full price again! That's just life!0 -
Thanks to all of you. The upshot was that Tesco have sent vouchers out as the item was still on offer in other stores and they had supplies in stock so apparently the counter manager should have called the duty manager to resolve the issue.
It was more that I felt the customer service was incorrect rather than huge amounts of cash (£20 would have been saved).
Thankfully it didn't cost me more in petrol to go there as passed it on the way to another store I needed.
Thanks everyone for replying. Happy New Year to you all.0
