In my opinion if someone was sacked for a very serious reason like assault or theft then the majority of these people wouldnt be telling a new employer. They would lie to get by and either say they were doing something elce like they were self employed,or had been looking after someone etc, or worked for somewhere thats shut down now or get friends with their own companies to lie for them.
For those who werent sacked for something very serious, often they can reach an agreement with an employer to provide a reference which doesnt say they were sacked. They then try to get a job with this. Obviously they would struggle with getting something with a high level of background checking where the new employer insists on knowing why they left their previous employmen
Some employers wont be bothered why a person left their previous job.It depends on the sector really.I was dismissed and I am working for a friend now.So it is possible.

I was once sacked for having pneumonia. i got an impersonal letter back from my initial doctor's note that said I would be off for at least 2 weeks - the reply said they couldn't afford to have anybody off sick that long so thanks and goodbye.

I was quite young at the time, never been ill before (and quite scared) and it knocked my confidence to pieces.

Probably not. The jobs that I sit on interview panels for tend to have more than one good candidate. Why employ a good candidate who's been fired rather than a good candidate who hasn't been fired?

Having said that, I think being fired over sickness is a little different because it's out of your control. I don't think that would be so much of a problem, esp if there's a good explanation for it.
