Whats needed is those projected growth figures to become reality...for the sake of the UK citizens...especially the young who are struggling to make a decent start in life.
The emphasis on the budget deficit by all political parties and the media has become a depressing routine...we need to get rid of the negatives.
Total government spending is still intact...wether theres a budget deficit or not...and its financed which is the main thing.
We need more long term planning without government interference...who are only interested in short term results...but that doesn't look likely..
Theres a lot to be happy about...

If it were done by Plan B(orrowing), the young of today will bear the brunt when the s**t hits the fan. You can't go on borrowing more and more forever. Labour's way would inevitably lead to a major crunch some time down the road, with the IMF or whoever imposing cuts that would make today's look like a picnic by comparison.

If they had gone ahead with the 3p fuel rise motorists everywhere would have started bursting into flame.

There is already more duty on fuel than is in any way reasonable. Enough is enough, there shouldn't be any more price rises. If they want to squeeze more money out of motorists tax the yummy mummies in their Chelsea tractors for their road tax.

As far as actually squirting fuel out of a pump into a tank goes we are all paying enough tax now.

Andrew Neil at lunchtime pointed out that we are actually borrowing the same amount as last year, but the way they are now calculating the figures has changed to make it appear as if we are actually borrowing less

Nothing changes, if you don't like a stat, just change how the stat is calculated, doesn't change the reality but seems to fool a lot of people

I thought I just heard on the radio that the corporation tax rate is being cut but can't find anything on the news website.
Did anyone else hear this or was it just me wishful thinking?
There is a further tax cut of greater political symbolism, which is that corporation tax will be cut by one percentage point more than expected in April 2014. That would take the rate of corporation tax to 21% - and makes it almost inevitable that by the time of the 2015 election, the mainstream rate of corporation tax will be 20%.
And as some of you may become tired of hearing in the coming weeks, month and years, a corporation tax rate of 20% would be the joint lowest rate of any of the large G20 economies.

SMI (Support for Mortgage Interest) scheme also extended (again) until 2015.

I agree that additional monies should be raised against the Chelsea Tractors and bigger cars 2l +. I guess they would argue they use more fuel so pay anyway.

When talking about the3p not being applied don't forget they did get the VAT hike. Another duty rise is due next September too, why not just cancel all penciled in increases?

I know they have to put in som eform of growth to make the books balance but i would have moire time for them all if they just said we are budgeting on zero growth for the foreseeable future.

Simply using figures that they either miss or don't come to fruition because of yet another reason bugs me.

Just think when things come good we can all be pleasantly surprised.

Is it possible to scrap Road Tax altogether, then increase the fuel tax to an acceptable level, then the people who use the road would only then pay for what they use?

    Just a thought...

The only sensible argument against this that I can think of is the fear of creating unemployment in South Wales.

Maybe then scrap the tolls on the Severn Bridge for them, or have I missed your point?
