No real surprises other than perhaps the total cancellation of scheduled 3p fuel duty increase.
Osborne described Balls's response as the worst ever, and so it was. No surprise there then either.

I thought I just heard on the radio that the corporation tax rate is being cut but can't find anything on the news website.
Did anyone else hear this or was it just me wishful thinking?0 -

I think it is the headline rate, not necessarily the small business rate. It's going to follow the already announced cuts down in 1% increments until it sits at 21% in 2014. AIUI it will not be extended to banks. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? On this I have to agree with George, Balls was awful, not just in weak content but delivery."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

I think that the Labour Government need to have a shuffle, and move on the ones who cannot achieve at leased a reply with some substance.0 -

In my reckoning being able to openly acknowledge not being the sharpest knife does in itself make you a lot sharper than many others, Bertie.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.

Whats needed is those projected growth figures to become reality...for the sake of the UK citizens...especially the young who are struggling to make a decent start in life.
The emphasis on the budget deficit by all political parties and the media has become a depressing routine...we need to get rid of the negatives.
Total government spending is still intact...wether theres a budget deficit or not...and its financed which is the main thing.
We need more long term planning without government interference...who are only interested in short term results...but that doesn't look likely..
Theres a lot to be happy about...0 -

As Osborne alluded, Balls is there because he was a central mamber of the Brown-ite cabal. So was E Milliband, which may explain why he tolerates him. As far as I know Balls has very limited back bench support and is unsurprisingly deeply unpopular with many, but Milliband probably prefers not to have him as a loose cannon outside of the tent. I hope he keeps him where he is, as a total liability to the opposition.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
