Best afternoon tea in belfast

As the title suggests, where is good to go? Preferably with a christmas twist this time of year. Not limited to belfast, other suggestions welcome

I had afternoon tea in the merchant this week with some family. We where there 3 hours, had extra sandwiches, scones and several top ups of pots of tea brought. It's £19.50 per person but they really do come and top up the trays, also don't be afraid to ask if you want more sandwiches, they're really posh rectangles with the crusts off so not overly big!

I mentioned when booking it was someone's birthday and they brought a small cake with candle complimentary too, a nice touch I thought!
  • I've been to the Merchant and I did come out hungry! What you got was lovely but not nearly enough and no offer of top ups!Having been to the Ritz in London (which isnt that much more tbh wouldn't be back at the Merchant)

I recently availed of two groupon offers

    1. Cargoes on Lisburn Road- really good selection (groupon was £9 for two people )
    2. Crumbs cakes on Lisburn Road -(again groupon was £5 this time but we only got tea and buns)

Check if Cafe Vaudeville do an afternoon tea as their desserts are fab!

Ten Square behind the City Hall do it with a twist.

Its cocktails in a teapot, you get chips, sandwiches, cakes etc.

Watch out for the Groupon deals.
  • My vote is also for the Merchant. I took my aunt and great aunt for mothers day and we had plenty to eat. The staff couldn't do enough for us - a real pampering session. It's more expensive Friday to Sunday so best value early in week.

A friend had an awful experience at the Fitzwilliam for afternoon tea so you may wish to avoid.
  • We went to the fitzwilliam, the food was nice but it didn't really feel like an 'occassion' just lunch.

Merchant is ok but pricey, you would def need to book. We went once but I wouldn't rush back. Although I didn't know they would bring more in the price.

The Stormont hotel is good, around £15 and a stand each with 4 triangles, 2 scone, 2 bits of tea loaf and 3 wee mini desserts.

We are trying the Maryville house afternoon tea on the good reports of a friend. They do a Christmas afternoon tea. Haven't been before but have heard good things.

IMO the best I have had was in the Slieve Russell in Ballyconnel, bit far just for lunch prob. It is really nice over Christmas, lots of decorations. they often have good packages on around Chritmas we have been a few times.
