I am making a food hamper for my MIL. I am new to this so just wondered - when I put it all together I think I need to put something under the items to make them closer to the top - what do people use fo this?
Also any tips on wrapping it in cellophane at the end, this looks tricky!!
I have had a look at the hamper pics on here, there are really helpful for inspiration!

My daughter has made a food hamper for her nan this year. To boost things towards the top, she has put tins of peas, small tins of beans, and other staple but boring foods underneath. If you don't want to do this, you could use newspaper or polystyrene blocks/chips.
To put the cellophane on, make sure you have plenty. Don't cut your piece too small. Gather opposite sides upwards, to meet above the hamper. Then bring up the other two sides of cellophane. Twist it all together and secure with a piece of Sellotape before adding your ribbon. If the ribbon is narrow, using two pieces together can be quite effective.0 -
Hi, I was just coming on here to ask for some ideas for a food hamper for my brother and sister in law, they have 3 young children and money is very tight for them this year. So I was thinking on making them a nice hamper with food that they are not bothering with buying cause they cant afford it, I have at the moment:-
Jacons biscuits for cheese
Jaffa Cakes
Yule Log
Tins of Custard
Box of Cadbury Fingers
Box of Milk tray
Asda Chosen for you Mince Pies
Asda Chosen for you Apple pies
Pringles cheese and chives and salt & vinegar
Sensation crips
If you have any other ides that I can put in, would be grateful.0 -

Hot choc? Nice jam? The Bonne Maman ones have been on offer recenly at Asda, not sure if they still are. I am also putting in chocs, biscuits, chutneys, bottle of wine, cheese straw type things, jar of olives, fruit teas.0 -

I always get the job of doing the hamper for my local disabled club raffle. Everyone brings something for me to put in and I wrap it all. I have used a large cardboard box cut down in height and added polystrene bits just broken up. I decorate the box with foil wrapping paper and leave a large piece to cover the polystrene before adding the items. When its is full I added cellophane tightly pulled over the top and sellotaped underneath. This is the only bit that you may need help with as it is awkward to hold. I finish off with a big bow.0

Nice soup? A fancy bottle of oil? I'm not sure, but when you do complete it I'd love to see a picture attached to this thread

some festive biscuits and chocs. If they are hard up the food you have selected will probably be the items they have bought as theyr'e relatively cheap to buy and the things they wont be buying will be tins of sweets, xmas biscuits, xmas cake, wine etc.Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -
Could someone please post the link to see pics of the hampers, ive searched the forum but cant see it. Im trying my first xmas hamper this year but am rubbish at 'dressing it up' so would like some inspiration.
