Repossession - elec company won't disconnect

Hi there

My house is being repossessed next week and on advice given here, I have tried to get the Electricity and water to disconnect services but neither will, saying that they don't do that and once I have left the house, the responsibility will be no longer mine but the mortgage company. Any one have any experience of this? Is this OK or should I insist on disconnection of both. Thanks

That's ok. When you get notification from the mortgage company it will note they they have taken possession of the property and on what date. Send a copy of this notification to each company because the mortgage company is unlikely to do so.
  • Thanks - I was a little worried as, even though the Mortgage company will have full possession when they evict me on the December 4th (and a happy christmas to you too) they informed me that they will still be charging me the monthly interest until they sold the property. I wondered if they also felt the same about any bills arising at the property during the time its vacant and before it is sold....

When we had our house repossessed they charged for the central heating system to be drained down, the water system to be drained. They also chrged for a gardener, locksmith and cleaners - even tho we left the house clean and free from any carpets, or rubbish.

We did however notify the water company, gas and electric that we had moved out and all future correspondence was to be sent to the building society.

    Good luck for the future.

  • Totally and utterly disgusting that they can just slap charges on as and when they fancy...

Just put a call in to my BR Trustee, I have a feeling this mortgage company are going to be quite aggressive...

    Thanks for your help :)
