Well today I have just made a final payment on one of my Defaults, £216! All paid off, just waiting for that 'settled' to be applied now
Just one more default to go which is £281, Im hoping to get that done and sorted in December and just have a cheap Xmas! I'd rather get my debts settled then splash out on gifts, I've asked for nothing but family time instead of having to spend £200-£300 on gifts for everyone!
My debt 'issues' started when I was 18 and just bought what I wanted when I wanted it, with no regard for how or who was going to pay my credit card bills. 3 credit cards, 3 online shopping accounts, 2 phone contract and a loan saw my spiral very quickly out of control on a administration wage! I ignored it and ignored it, until eventually my credit rating plummeted to 'VERY POOR' & 'WOULD NOT TOUCH WITH A BARGEPOLE'! I had 8 Defaults registered against me, I paid some back, others I didn't and for the next 6 years I wasn't allowed any credit and I made no attempt to 'sort' out my issue. Those defaults fell off, became SB, and I was in a position to maybe start rebuilding my credit file and take responsibility (shudders!)
HOWEVER, I then fell into a similar trap (Woe is me and stupidity really does slap me in the face alot), and I ended up in a mess with payday loans... robbing peter to pay paul! So again I started battling with letters/calls and eventually paid all but one back, and then they logged a default against me, as did Santandar for not paying back an unauthorised overdraft hence 2 new shiny defaults (SIGH).
So now, Ive paid one of those back in full, and I am nearly in the process of paying the second back in full.
I know I've been stupid and quite frankly a total idiot, but the MSE boards really were the wake up call I needed to get my act together, stop being a financial nightmare and think about my future!
My credit score will hopefully recover in time, and I have placed myself on a personal ban of, if you dont need it, you dont buy it. I am rewearing all items of my wardrobe instead of replacing, I am mending those that can be mended and I am on a strict weekly budget! I withdraw the cash I'm allowed, and leave the cards at home! If its gone, its gone. Tough. I spend my fridays night in, and my saturday nights at a friends with my £5-6 bottle of wine, and do you know I could not be happier!!!!
I just really wanted to say thanks and although I dont post alot, I read the boards every single day, picking up hints and tips
So thank you for 'fingers crossed' getting me back on track. Hopefully in 4-5 years I 'may' be allowed a mortgage and become a real grown up!
