To be or not to be.. A CEO (Traffic Warden)

Hi all

I'd like your help to make a decision please.

Some of you may remember me for my previous line of work in the world of not so wonderful car parking. I've been a CEO for a couple of councils and worked for a couple of PPCs (the latter being regretable although I didn't directly do scam PCNs).

Anyway my last job (driving) didn't work out due to a health complaint that the NHS are dragging their feet over. So, I'm out of work again.

Now.. I've seen a couple of CEO jobs advertised, I have the experience, am honest, always done a fair job and never really get into arguements with people while serving PCNs - mainly because I treat the public with respect.

I left parking years ago and decided I never wanted anything to do with it again. It's an aggressive nasty little industry that just wants to rob the motorist at any expense and walks all over its own workers.

So here is your chance to have your say. Would you prefer an out of work CEO to go back in and earn his crust of bread or stay unemployed being skint?

Should I go back into parking and be a CEO (Traffic warden) again? 25 votes

Yes - I'd rather have an honest CEO than a dishonest one.

Yes if you are happy to do it why not, no matter how much some people my not like them as it has been shown (Aberystwyth) we cant really do without them!
As long as it is done fairly and honestly and it gives you an income go for it.

Would prefer you to get a proper job, surely there's another option?

Being a CEO or Traffic Warden (real Council one, or private fake one issuing 'invoices' fit for the bin) is a 'job' I would never wish upon my worst enemy.

I cannot contemplate being paid to fine people because they dared to overstay by 2 minutes, or were legitimately unloading but you didn't see them, etc. It's not a job that does anything useful for Society.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I've met a few helpful and fair traffic wardens which is saying something for Central London.

It's always a nice surprise for a motorist to come across the above

Job is a job and if you have a family to provide for then you should take what you can.

You can use it as stop gap until something else comes along.

You sound like you would always apply common sense and apply the rules fairly so why not. Just be sure to say where you'll be and MSErs can all park for free.

I appreciate that some people are saying don't do it, but you have to look after yourself, if there are no other options just go for it. Its a job, you pay taxes and contribute into the system, it may not be a long term career move, just as long as it puts money in your pocket and gives you esteem enough to look in the mirror in the morning and think well I don't have to be somebody that is just living off the state.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

If the OP doesn't go for it, someone else (possibly someone less honest) will.

Personally, I'd rather people who can't be bothered to park properly be ticketed than deal with swathes of cars who park anywhere and everywhere because there's no one to police it!

Same goes for some car parks. There's a parade of shops near me with a 30min maximum stay. All around is yellow lines and so if people parked there to spend a day in the park, it means that the local businesses would have no customers, as customers have nowhere to park.

    Just my opinion!

If it makes you happy, do it. I had no idea this was your original line of work actually! It doesn't matter what anybody says, it's a job and one that can be done with honesty and integrity, as you know. It doesn't pay very well, but in the current climate, if you don't go for it somebody else will, and they might be power hungry...
