Can I get help with petrol costs to work?

I work part time and the hours fit in perfectly with my childrens school hours however I have to make sure I leave work on time to pick them up from school on time.
It takes me 20 minutes to get to work and as I'm usually in a hurry to pick the kids up straight from work and the location of it, I don't want to be faffing with public transport because I'm quite sure there is no bus route to my work place and I wouldn't want to be waiting around and end up being late picking the kids up. Taxi's are a definate no no too.
I pay from 30.00 to 40.00 pounds for petrol per week
and my wage is 178.00 after tax.
Is there any help I can get such as from tax credits or schemes?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

There is no benefit directly relating to travel costs, unless you have recently started work and have been long term unemployed. Have you checked that you are not entitled to tax credits based on your income - do you have a partner that works?0

Hi, my partner works too. We claim child tax credits and working tax credits. However in my last job a few months ago I was on more money and it was only a few minutes away but now that I'm on less money and less working tax credits (why I will never know! I have asked why and they say that this is right) and now paying out alot more for petrol it just seems more of a struggle.:j Comping wins: Gig tickets, Lovemydog tag, Country Livings Christmas fair tickets

Tax credits are based on your income for the last tax year, so if you were earning more then your TC's would decrease for the current year. They *may* increase again in April, unless your earnings for this year are still higher than that of the year before last!0

Ask your other half to chip in with the petrol costs.
You work for his benefit too.
You have what thousands of mums dream of, a job that fits in with the children.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Yes its great that it fits in with the children however its alot less money than I was originally on.
Also, my partners money and my money is put together anyway to pay all of our bills. We don't half the bills and keep for ourselves what is left. So asking him to chip in is a bit of a waste of time as I have control over his money anyway and vice versa.:j Comping wins: Gig tickets, Lovemydog tag, Country Livings Christmas fair tickets

Music to my ears, this is the way it should be, so may couples say this is mine, that is yours, i pay for this you pay for that..
My OH and I have always worked like this, doesnt matter who earns what. Pool everythign, pay the bills, enjoy what's left as a family, wonderful. We have been married 44 years, never ever had an argument about money, 'cept when he wanted Sky Sports and I didnt, lol, he won, with the proviso he gets to watch it in the conservatory lol.
Good luck, hope you can sort things out.

Not entirely true. They get travel expenses to Parliament but not to their constituency offices which is often their base for two days per week if not more.0 -
