in Cutting tax
I am currently a GMB Union Member where I have been for the last 11 years
Today I have received a letter from them stating to fill in a form to see if I am owed a tax refund. The letter states that if I am owed a refund I will keep 60p of every 1 pound refunded. With no terms and conditions stated is the other 40p going to the GMB Union? Meaning could I potentially receive a full pound if I was to check not using the GMB Union?
I can't see how I would receive a refund anyways due to me being a single guy with nothing changing in the last 11 years regarding my status
Thanks in advance for your help

Many unions take money from companies in return for promoting their services to the members: this is a disgrace. The union should tell you how to claim right from the start.
If you are entitled to a refund, it is best to do it yourself and get the full amount.
I think that now you can only go back four years not six.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

If you want to do it yourself don't use an agent.
If you've got no intention of doing it yourself you may aswell claim through them as you have nothing to loose.0 -
Every little helps! Why not claim the refund and buy yourself a small present with the money?Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Silly question but would there be any need for me to check?
I have worked for the same company in the last 11 years and my living arrangements or single life havent changed
The only thing to change is salary increasesWork hard play hard......0 -
GMB subs aren't tax deductible.
You may have some other employment expenses such as uniform laundry, tools. Are you a part of a regulated industry that needs you to pay a registraton? Are you in a professional body?
Depends on your job.0 -
No nothing unfortunatelt
The only other things I payout on a regular basis are my pension and the ckmpanys sports and social fund which is a must I have been told for the last eleven years!
I bought a book back in Jan last year relating to my job but that was for £40 only and I have no receiptWork hard play hard......0 -
Presumably the pension subscription comes off your pay before any tax is calculated?0
