Have been to hairdresser today and she was using GHD's... I desperately need new straighteners (my hair smells burnt after using mine these days YUK).... And hairdresser mentioned that she has found GHD's have a tendancy to develop faults after about a year and lots of people have said this to me! Eeeek!! She said that a very good alternative are FHI's which i had never heard of but they appear to be half the price of GHD's which is a BIG bonus as i am broke due to buying a house lol!! So - do you use them? If so, is there a particular model i should go for? My hair is just below shoulder length and is coarse and flyaway but there is a lot of it lol!! Some appear to be tourmaline and others models are tourmaline & ceramic.... HELP! Which are best and why? LOL
Love these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FHI-Go-Straightener-Rocker-FREE-Mini-Straightener-/160883534944?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Hair_Care_Hair_Straighteners_PP&hash=item257567ec60 Cos they look pretty lol... are they smaller than average straighteners though (not the mini extra ones, i know they are small LOL!)
These look more "professional and serious" but are they better than other link?? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FHI-Technique-Black-1-Ceramic-Hair-Straighteners-210c-Fixed-Temp-Free-Mat-/360490707315?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Hair_Care_Hair_Straighteners_PP&hash=item53eeeba973

Baldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?

I have some, they are as good as any others I've used. They have temperature adjustment which I gather GHDs don't. I'm not an expert, but they were recommended by a relative who is a hairdresser.Shrinking my mortgage!

I LOVE them! I've had 2 pairs of GHD's and they both had to be repaired within a yr.
If you look on the thread called 'GHD's have died' (on phone can't do links) you'll see why I like them (the FHI's that is). I have just restarted using my old ones after trying some babyliss ones and I can't believe the difference in not only the straightness of my hair but the condition of it.
I know of 6 different hairdressers who use these and not GHD's. If you have a Sally's near you, their platform ones are reduced to £75.00 at the mo. Or if you know someone who has a Sally's card then they work out at about £65. My friend is a hairdresser and she has the card so I'm going to get some for the cheaper price!
ETA - I would recommend the platform ones that are tourmaline and ceramic. I bought some of the cheaper ones in error and they were no more good than my babyliss ones now. Luckily they let me swap them!

I have a pair and they're fab! My GHDs broke so I went to Sally's and asked for straightener recommendations. I explained I didn't have a top end budget as I'm prepared to pay for something which is actually good and works well for my hair.
The lady actually recommended FHIs, despite selling GHDs too. They're brilliant on my hair, which is naturally super thick, wiry, coarse and very curly. I get a brilliant result and it lasts all day.
The price is a bonus too, they're far cheaper than GHDs.0 -
My friend has some, I used them the other day and they were very good. Her Mum is a hairdresser and had bought them for her so they must be fairly decent.0

I went and bought a new pair of the platform ones yesterday...they're fab! Can't believe the difference in my hair! It has stayed poker straight all day.0

I have both FHI's and a pair of wide plate GHD's I've owned for about 9 years and are still going strong. I still favour my GHD's over the FHI's as I find they straighten my hair better and quicker.
You may have found GHD's to be poor recently as the fella who started the company has sold it and now brought out a new line called Cloud 9. So steer clear of GHD's and either go for Cloud 9 if you have the budget or FHI's if you don't.0 -
Can't comment on these straighteners not heard of them before.
But I have had my one and only pair of GHDs for 7 years or so, used them nearly every day, apart from a few days here and there when I stay curly, and when I am on holiday, when there is just no point!
Not had any issues, touch wood of course.
Prior to getting them, I had used virtually every other brand, including the old 'iron & brown paper bag' routine, and can't say that I have found any others that do the job quite aswell.
Of course, the GHDs cost considerably more than the others, so if cost is an issue, the others look a good bet.
But from my experience when I have tried the cheaper make of other products, I have more often than not been disappointed and have ended up buying the more expensive ones too.
Hope this helps.0 -
