No, not "how awful is that" but "how great is that" - you have learnt a big lesson these last few months and as a result have reduced your debt exposure and have broken the borrow - consolidate - spend cycle.

Actually looking at my signature line......I only joined this site less than two months ago and whilst, admittedly I knew about ebay I never used it, but I only discovered pisback, quidco, cashback junction and matched betting - and in less than two months there is well over £3,000 of additional income which has/is all being thrown straight at the debts. Okay pigsback is vouchers...but that means I don't have to pay cash for presents....swings and roundabouts at the saying goes. It's all money to me and it's all clearing the debt.
I realise that unless I sell everything we own that this level of extra income won't be sustainable but :j WOW:j what a start to gee me on. To any newbie DFW's, all I can say is read other peoples diaries, see how they did/do it and take inspiration...but most importantly don't just sit and think about it....do something and it is amazing how quickly it changes the overall debt picture.
And.....read the signature strips. I must admit I love reading those to see the reductions in debts. It doesn't matter if your debt is £100 or £100,000 - clearing it is achieveable with determination and support0 -
Absolutely, you have made a fantastic start and although you know that an extra £1500 a month is not sustainable, you have now got yourself programmed to make the most of opportunities that you did not take up before, and over the next few months more of the debt will be gone, never to be replaced again!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. ooooh....forgot to say that the car insurance has gone down from today as well!
Was £59.64 and is now....£33.52 (per month)
....and of course I went through Quidco:D0 -
I didn't want to do it, .......but I did:think:
I've just committed myself (well DH and I have) to a further two year tie in on our mortgage. Our initial offer period had ended and we were due to go back to a variable rate which changes in line with BoE rates. We talked about it and First Active offer the option (for a fee:eek: ) of selecting one of the new deals they offer new customers.
Because of my recent health issues and long term sickness (and therefore recent issues paying CCs) we know we would have difficulty moving the mortgage and also because of recent hikes in interest rates and we both feel this trend is likely to continue for a while....we opted in for a two year fixed deal at 5.85%
I personally can't stand First Active....they are the most unhelpful lender we have ever had. We've never had arrears, but when we approached them to discuss options when I was ill they were so inflexible and unhelpful. However, we need to know where we stand with what is a fairly hefty mortgage payment each month and if BoE keep raising interest rates it will be worth it....if they don't and the rates go down, we'll kick ourselves, but be committed anyway0 -
well done brainfreeze for making that prudent decision. Two years will pass quickly and by then you will have reduced your other debts and be in a better position to shop around.
And well done on making that extra £3k - you are really inspiring.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
You've made the best decision you could with the knowledge you had in difficult circumstances - that's it  Uncertainty is a great energy sapper, I think and now you can keep your focus on moving forward.
Have a great day!

Wow...brilliant day.
My friend (hesjane) who got me hooked on Matched Betting (and to be honest helps me every step of the way), got me some more free money today.
She guided me through the following
£28.73 profit from a £10 deposit at cyberslotz
£38.65 profit from a £10 deposit at corals (included the £6 free motivator bet offer)
£123 profit from a £10 deposit at cyberbingo (she did warn me I could possibly lose the £10 though...this is the only one that involved any risk to my money)
£118 profit from a £55 deposit at virgin casino
Those profit figures are all after I have got my deposits back. So...................a fantabulous total extra income for doing nothing more than sitting with hesjane at my computer of......

Hi, Can I say a huge WELL DONE on fighting the Cancer. I could be nowhere near as strong as you have been.
You are doing amazing with you debts, I hope you are very proud of yourself, you really should be.
I think you are an insperation to us all and have done really well on the matched betting too. (sorry as I do not know how to do it, but sounds a nice little earner though)
Keep it up and those debts will be dropping off your sig like flies.
ONCE AGAIN WELL DONE TO YOU :j :T
Oh and any news yet on your Council Tax?0 -
Wow, brainfreeze, that is *really* impressive - £308???? Well done you. I'm reading into matched betting - are there any threads on the cyberslotz or the casino stuff that I can swot up on? These figures sound fantastic - I enjoyed my pottering day yesterday, but if I could make £300, then I'd pay a bit more attention!2023: the year I get to buy a car0
