Hi, I never understand these so perhaps someone can help - does the multiple entries per phone number relate to if there are multiple individuals sharing a phone number? Or can an individual enter 6 times with their number?

For example:

You can enter six times using your home phone number (landline) and then another six times with your mobile number, and if you have a second mobile then another six times with that. But no-one else in your household could then enter the same competition using any of these numbers.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS: WATCH TO WIN COMPETITIONS (“W2W”)

The promoter is STV, Pacific Quay, Glasgow, G51 1PQ. STV runs W2W competitions which feature at various days and times across STV’s broadcasting schedule. Viewers are invited to enter W2W for the chance to win prizes. STV’s televison broadcast service is available throughout Central and North Scotland. The W2W website is available at https://www.stv.tv/win (the “Website”). These terms and conditions (the “Terms and Conditions”) apply to all W2W promoted by STV.

How to Enter

1. Entries may be submitted;
1.1 by sending a SMS message starting with the keyword CASH followed by the entrant's full name and town, to the shortcode 83788 (83STV);
1.2 by IVR by entrants calling 0904 161 00 00 and leaving their name and telephone number; or
1.3 online at stv.tv/win, by entrant’s leaving their name telephone number, email address and postcode.

Cost of Entry

2. Entry by SMS is subject to a maximum charge of £1.50 per message in addition to the standard text messaging rate charged by your mobile telecommunications provider. You will not be able to cancel this charge once you have sent the SMS message.
3. Entries submitted by IVR will be subject to a maximum charge of £1.50 (£1.54 from BT landlines) per message in addition to the standard network charges of your telephone service provider. Mobile phone rates may vary and you are advised to contact your service provider for details.
4. Entries submitted online are free.
5. Entrants are permitted to make a maximum of 6 entries per phone number provided, with a maximum of 3 phone numbers permitted per entrant.

Entrants: eligibility

6. Any person who is an employee or an immediate family member of an employee of STV or any other person who is directly connected with the organisation of any particular W2W is ineligible to participate.
7. W2W is only open to residents of the UK, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.
8. Entrants must be aged 18 years or over.

Conditions of Entry

9. The closing date and time (“Closing Date”) of each W2W will be specified within the W2W promotion broadcast on STV. All entries must be received by STV by the closing date.
10. All eligible entries received by the closing date shall be entered into the the competition draw.
11. Entries received after the closing date will not be entered into the competition draw. SMS entries received after closing date may still be charged by the entrant’s network provider.
12. Entries that are incomplete will be deemed invalid and will not be entered in the competition draw.
13. Entrants may only submit entries on their own behalf.
14. STV shall not be responsible for any entries that are misdirected, lost, damaged in transmission, delayed for technical or other reasons and received after the closing date.
15. Entrants are liable for their costs in accessing telephone, mobile or computer networks.
16. STV reserves the absolute right to disqualify any entrant which it considers has used improper means to enter. 17. By entering W2W, entrants consent to their first and last name and town of residence being broadcast on Channel 3 in Central and North Scotland and on STV’s Website in the event that the entrant is the prize winner.
18. Entrants submitting two entries via either SMS or IVR (other than entrants who withhold their telephone number when entering via IVR or entrants whose phone number is otherwise unavailable) shall benefit from a third entry which shall be made automatically upon receipt of the second entry at no additional cost to the entrant.
19. If an entrant makes further entries to the same competition, the fourth and fifth entries are charged as set out for the first and second entries in “Costs of Entry” above. A sixth entry shall be made automatically upon receipt of the fifth entry at no additional cost to the entrant on the same basis as the third entry described above.
20. No more than six entries including the automatic third and sixth entries described above may be made per phone number to any single W2W.

The Prize

21. STV reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to substitute a similar prize of equivalent or greater value if for any reason a prize is unavailable.
22. No prize(s) shall be exchanged or transferred. Prizes may not be exchanged for cash.
23. STV shall reasonably endeavour to deliver prizes within 28 days from the date the winner is published.
24. Where a prize is provided by a third party (the “Prize Donor”), the winner(s) may be required to complete additional formalities with the Prize Donor, including by way of example and without limitation, completing booking forms or signing up to and abiding by the Prize Donor’s reasonable terms and conditions. STV shall not be responsible for any acts or failure to act of the Prize Donor or any other third party.
25. Prizes requiring travel shall be restricted as follows unless otherwise stated in the W2W promotion: (i) Travel to and from the prize destination shall not form part of the prize and shall be paid for by the winner(s); (ii) All travel, holiday, health and insurance shall be the responsibility of the prize winner(s); (iii) Where travel dates are restricted, the prize must be taken up within those dates; and (iv) where travel dates are not specified, all travel and holiday prizes shall be taken within one year of the date of the competition draw.
26. The prize winner is solely responsible for any expenses not specified in the prize description.

The Prize Winner (the “Winner”)

27. The Winner(s) name(s) shall be selected in a random draw from all correct and eligible answers received by the time specified on the closing date.
28. If the Winner (s) cannot be traced after reasonable efforts having been made by STV or having been contacted the prize winner declines the prize, then STV may select a replacement winner or cancel the competition and dispose of the prize in its discretion without any liability to the Winner (s).
29. The prize winner when contacted shall provide their name, telephone number and address details in order that the prize can be delivered to them
30. The Winner(s) shall be announced on STV.tv/win after the time specified on the closing date and/or will be notified within seven days after the Winner (s)) has been ascertained.
31. Names of the Winner (s) are available from STV upon request.
32. The winner (s) is required to participate in any publicity, including filming, connected with the W2W promotion, if requested.

Personal Details and Unsolicited Marketing

33. Entrants entering via SMS shall be sent text messages about STV's similar products and services and STV shall retain the entrant’s contact number (s) unless the entrant texts “NO INFO” to STV. See STV's privacy policy for further information.

Legal Information

34. All decisions of STV are final and binding. No correspondence shall be entered into.
35. STV reserves the right to amend the Terms and Conditions at any stage without notice to the participants.
36. STV shall not be liable in any way for any losses arising directly or indirectly from any failure or delay in performing any of its obligations under these Terms and Conditions caused by any Force Majeure Event. “Force Majeure Event” means an event, inability or delay that is caused by circumstances beyond STV’s reasonable control and which cannot be cured by measures which might reasonably be taken in the course of that relevant party’s business, including war, terrorism, riot, civil commotion, accident, breakdown, damage to machinery or equipment or technology, fire, floods, snow, acts of God, regulatory, legislative or administrative interference, ruling or decision provided that no circumstance or cause shall be considered to be beyond the control of a party if it arises as a result of STV’s failure to take reasonable care.
37. The Terms and Conditions are governed by and shall be construed in accordance with Scots law and the Scottish Courts shall have non-exclusive

I imagine it's because they make lots of money on the phone and SMS entries, so want to encourage lots of them, but have to allow the same number of entries no matter how you enter.
