Mercer's Debt Collection - Please Help!

I've entered into a DMP with the CCCS and is taking a bit longer than expected to process. I've been making my £1 token payments however, Barclay Card have now handed over my account to Mercers Debt Collection.
I told Mercer's what is happening and gave them all the details etc.
When I got home on Friday, I had note from them saying that Debt Collector will be coming round to my house on the 10th April to collect the money.
Are they like bailiffs?? Will they seize my furniture????
I don't know what to do.

No, they have no legal powers. They are just frightening you.
The only way they can seize your property is via the court system.
Make sure you are out when they call or don't answer the door - they have no power to enter your property without your permission. Tell them to go away when they call.
Send them a letter (registered) saying that you are dealing with BarclayCard via DMP and refuse to deal with them. Seek guidance from CCCS if required. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

NO NO AND NO. They are not bailiffs. Only with a court order can a bailiff turn up at your house. Dont worry. Noone will turn up. They use this line to put the fear of god into you. Have you had a ccj put on this account. And sorry welcome to the board. Can you give us a bit more info on this, Like how much debt is. Have you got a default on credit file. Have you checked your credit file. Are there any late or over limit charges on the account. You can claim these back which will reduce the amount you owe. Also there is a letter you can send that will put your account into dispute until this is sorted out.Night Owl Member No 1 :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi amd Welcome,
Try not to panic! As already said Debt Collection Agents do not have the same legal rights as Bailiffs although they certainly try to convince you that that they have.
Make sure you do not let them into your property and DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING!
I also very much doubt that they will turn up anyhow. I would contact the CCCS and let them know ASAP.
I have an account being dealt with by Mercers on behalf of BC and I know they are quite forceful. Do not let them talk you into paying more than you can afford and request any agreements in writing if you havent already got them. I had to make numerous requests before I finally got conformation of the accepted payments.

Thank you!!! :rotfl: I feel so much better. I've been stressing about this like mad.
My debt with Barclay card is £890 and don't think I have any default's. I'm in the process of claiming my Natwest charges which is about £2500.:happyhear PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBT :happyhear:j Light Bulb Moment 25th March 2007:jAdditions - £118; Barclaycard - £857; Capital One - £255;Citi Finance – £320; G E Capital Bank - £844; Halifax - £522; J D Williams - £243;Month End Money - £134; Monument - £419; Natwest - £471; Pounds till Payday – £277Next - £302; Littlewoods - £1061; Uncle Buck – £164; Welcome Finance - £4572Total Debt as of 29th May 2007 – £10 5620 -
The thing is if mercers are chasing you cos B/C have passed it on to them then i would imagine there will be late or over limit charges you can claim back. Pl,ease check. They do not vusually pass a debt on unless it is defaulted on.Night Owl Member No 1 :rotfl: :rotfl:

Mercers are not separate bailliff types, but part of Barclaycard, I know them better than some members of my family since I have both visa and MC. My experience of them is that if you say you don't have the money and continue to say it (after about eight times they do listen) they then drop their demands. they have for years been saying to me, OK you HAVE to pay today or else and I have responded with I CANNOT DO IT. They have always, whenever this has happened, come to an arrangement that has suited me and they will do it for you but they aree trained to not give up until it becomes apparent that you really6 genuinely don't have the cash.
Do not be intimidated and always always keep in contact with them and all your other creditors and keep calm about it. This debt we're dealing with and it is not worth killing yourself over. It may feel insurmountable but it isn't.

They called me Friday 3 times at work, which I have asked them not to repeatedly.
As I was caught up with the BACS problem I told them they will have to wait till Monday or Tuesday for payment. Also told them I have been waiting for 2 months re the £900 approx. BC owe me for charges and maybe I should start harassing them. They relented on that 3rd call. Bet they ring tomorrow though.Total Debt now £22,525.07 Start Debt £32,732.36

Hi huys
I could use your help with mercers. I have about 2k outstanding on a credit card for barclays and as usual they are using mercers to apply pressure. I just lost my job and have £800 which i can give them. will they settle the account if i tell them this? other than this i have no assets they can take.
thanks0 -

Firstly, mercers are Barclays in house debt collectors.
Secondly, At the moment they are unlikely to accept a fulland final settlement, if you have been paying your minimum to date.
I would suggest that you talk to one of the debt charities http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help and then put up your SOA.
Are you getting all the benefits to which you are entitled? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
