Today I received a text message from the DCA 'Carter Forbes', which stated as follows 'We have recently obtained new debit information from you call this number today to avoid your full outstanding balance being collected'.
First of all I have not given this company my bank details; I have never even spoken to them regarding any alleged debt of mine they may hold. However if they have obtained my bank details where have they gotten them from? I doubt my bank would give them out.
My question is can this company just take money from my account without my permission? Is that even legal?
It would be great if someone out there could offer some advice on where I stand

I had the same text this afternoon, I was really friendly with the guy on the phone however I explained VERY clearly to him;
I am aware this is a recorded conversation.
I am telling you now I am NOT giving you permission to use my debit card details and I am not giving you permission to use my account number or sort code to attempt to set up a direct debit or standing order.
If your company do attempt to use any new credit or debit card details that you may have obtained from a 3rd Party, I shall report the matter to my bank and will also report the matter to the police as this is fraud.
The guy on the phone was very friendly and said he 'understood' where I was coming from and he would feel the same - I do wonder if it's a ploy to get you to make contact so they can set up an arrangement etc, however I have checked my bank tonight to ensure that no new direct debits and standing orders have been set up - I am also thinking of cancelling my bank card just in case and having a new one sent out - it's all the hassle though!
What I have done is I have moved the cash to my savings account in the meantime - I am going to call my bank on Tuesday to see if any attempts to use my bank card have been made over the weekend as they keep a record of all failed 'switch' transactions - Might be something you wish to do?0
