New hope for the poor.

Whilst enjoying a cigar, and a very large G&T, with some Australian friends today, I was alerted to the advice of one "Gina Rinehart", - an Antipodean Heroin of the rich.
I just wondered if her very sound advice holds water on this side of the globe?

My only surprise is why she didn't also suggest that the poor spend too much time eating. Can't think why.....

Gina Rinehart, a mining magnate worth an estimated £19 billion, has advised those jealous of the wealthy to "spend less time drinking or smoking and socialising, and more time working" in order to be successful.
Miss Rinehart, 56, also rounded on Australia's "class warfare", insisting it was billionaires such as herself who were doing more than anyone to help the poor.
She warns that Australia risks following European economies ruined by "socialist" policies, high taxes, and excessive regulation.

Nice to be in a position to advise others how to earn it - assuming you've inherited it yourself that is (ref that link)0

Well the Daily Mail [who are surely never wrong?] have a different take. They put her current wealth at $20billion [£13 billion] but then claim she made £11 bn this year alone.

... and incidentally, her Daily Mail picture makes her even more glamorous. A true pin-up if ever I saw one.0 -

She's an interesting woman. Basically she inherited control of a trust which owned a bunch of mining licenses. She was clever in wooing the likes of Rio Tinto to develop those licenses into income streams.
Be under no illusion: Ms Rinehart is a very good businesswoman. She is also a philatrophist: she supports Cambodian orphanages and a charity that helps trafficked people, neither of which would get much support without her.
It's easy to sneer at the rich but she inherited enough that she never needed to work and there are plenty of nice beaches to laze on in Aus. That she has developed her interests and employed thousands, at least, of Australians is good for her and for the country. A Capitalist fairy tale.0 -

Wow what an incredible defence of a lucky sperm recipient.
I wonder how clever she would have been, had she been born in the dreadfull slums of Manchester.

And I believe she inherited it, and I did read somewhere that with the mines and the rights she now has that she has the potential to become by far the richest person in the world.0 -

To be effective at putting your point over you have to communicate it to your target audience. I'm not sure if the poor and !!!!less in Australia read Australian Resources.
It's a bit like ranting on about the poor on MSE : pretty ineffectual but it helps to get it off your chest. Gina seems to have quite a lot to get off her chest.0 -

What dreadful slums of Manchester? That's a ridiculous statement to make when there is no comparison between the poorer parts of the UK and the slums all around the third world or even the Projects in the US. Especially when the people in these slums can manage to work their way out of them, becoming millionaires.
If you are not doing well financially then look in the mirror for someone to blame. You have had access to a top drawer free education system, a labour market without restrictions on age, race, gender and have the opportunity to acquire further education and training cheaply and easily. If you want to be rich then stop wallowing in self pity and start working towards a brighter future.0 -
She is one women I wouldn't mind snuggling up too, we could throw bread crumbs at the poor while hot ballooning over a council estate0
