I had to read Far from the Madding Crowd at school and didn't love it, but I do want to read it again...seeing as that was in 1988 I did my gcses:rotfl:
I'm still going with Wuthering Heights:) I'm up to 75% through, so my kindle says, so not long! I'm finding it easier to read fast now, getting used to the writing. As dds doing it in English, I bought the DVD so will watch that with her...she's not keen but might help her get to grips with the plot;)
I still haven't written my list of books from that list that I want to read. Job for half term I think...:D

  • I haven't been very good at updating:o

So...money wise. I've upgraded my phone...and dd2 has e new one. I'm still using my phone but with a monthly sim only contract which is just £12.90:T Dds contract is £32 I think, but ex is paying half so I'm now actually paying less each month:) I have been paying £37 ish for mine, as well as £10 for dds...now it'll be £16 (my half of dds) and my £12.90....under £30 instead of almost £50:beer:

Of course, I have a very happy dd too;)

Shopping came from As yesterday, I did stock up on lots of things. They made some stupid mistakes though so have emailed with a moan. I asked for 6 onions...so they send me 9, wanted 4 bananas and got 3, wanted 4 carrots and got 2....why?! Also they forgot my bottle of coke, that I paid for, sent a cucumber and pepper with a bad, bruised bit...so I was not happy. Oh and fromage frais due up today...useless;)

Dd2 and I are off to town today - the first visit since the Christmas hols....quite pleased with that;) Though I haven't had the money to go and didn't need anything. I'm quite proud of the fact that in Januray I paid for car tax, new brake pads, 2 tyres, girls club subs...all without going into savings, just using weekly spending money. Ex's maintenance has not been touched, straight to savings.

Must do a meal plan for the week...was very naughty and did my shopping with just a vague plan in my head...I'll do that now.

  • Right, lets do this weeks meal plan:
    Today - hm lasagne
Mon - beef stew, mash and dumplings
Tue - chicken chow mein, noodles, prawn crackers, then pancakes!
    Wed - spag bol/chilli
    Thurs - jacket pot& chicken
    Fri - chicken curry
    Sat - tacos

Not sure if girls will be at their dads to eat on fri or sat...hopefully yes, so that'll save one meal:D

  • We had a nice afternoon in town, even though it was raining and I forgot my umbrella...almost bought a new one for £5 but thought no:D

I spent £10 in boots on bits of make up, toothpaste and mouthwash (that were too dear in asd@;)), splashed out £11 on the Lu$h dream cream (it had better work), and treated myself to 2 tops, a jumper and a cardi in h&m for £40. I returned a top dd2 had bought online in the sale a few weeks ago, and swapped a pair of dd1s trousers I bought her for Xmas that the pockets just came away on:o

On the way home I nipped into s-burys just for a couple of bits and managed to get lots of bakery stuff gone cheap - £1.05 for 8 multigrain rolls, 6 wholemeal rolls, 8 hot cross buns and 2 cinnamon whirls - was very pleased! Lots have gone in the freezer. Gt a lovely big salad bowl for £1.50 to go with our lasagne tonight, bit of a treat;)

The lasagne is in the oven, I do love a homemade one:T

No updates for ages and then 4 come along at once!

I checked out that BBC reading list - I'd only read 11 :o shocking for someone who considers herself an avid reader....

I love a HM lasagne, haven't made it for ages. Hope you enjoyed it.

  • Hi Pixiechic just catching up on how things are going ..... Groceries are still my downfall too!:(

Just having TinTH for dinner & am trying a Mr T Value batter mix - 7p!:T

It's made with water (so wasn't sure if I'd like it:o) but it's fine! Great news as the cost of the Lacto*free milk is far too much to use it for cooking!

Will be trying it for my pancakes on Tues night too!:D

I know what you mean about meal planning - started again a few weeks ago & it was going pretty well (although still on very restricted diet just now:() but fell off the past couple of weeks & things started to get out of hand again :o

My freezer seems to be constantly filling up rather than getting emptier - as there's always LO to go in!:T

I'm chuckling at the Classics books - I've downloaded loads onto my kindle (when they were free!) but not managed to read any yet:o Have started a couple but think you really need to be in the mood to read them!

Take care & have a happy 1/2 term

You definitely do need to be in the mood...and most of the time I'm not, so it's taking me so long:rotfl: I just fancy a nice, easy chick lit..but I will persevere;) I was saying how I would finish soon then dd1 tells me how she needs me to read one for her asap:rotfl: I did say I would, so I can help her with her english, I am good:D

Ooh toad in the hole....haven't had that in ages. Dd1 moans about sausages though, the pest. She likes posh butchers one that ex mil sometimes picks up for us...so maybe I'll get some just so we can have a TinTH, yum:)

Hope you're keeping well rising...I'm definitely in need of a rest this week, felt a few twinges near where I had my op, so best take it easy.

I'm going to copy the list out and note all the ones I want to read...I'd only read 20...embarrassingly:o I put it down to the fact I didn't do english at A level:rotfl:

Lasagne was good, the one I did a couple of weeks ago was better though - no idea why, I made it the same! Think today's cheese sauce wasn't as good. Still, girls devoured it, so just me being picky;)

  • Morning, first proper day of half term:beer:

I was up early (well, 8.40 is early in half term isn't it?;)) as dd2 had a parcel coming - ordered her some all black converse boots last week, she's buying them with Xmas money. They were £40-odd at all the high st online shops, not much less on eBay...but I searched a bit and found some for £22:) had to get half a size bigger than normal but with insoles in they are fine, bargain:beer:

Dd2s friend is coming in a bit for the afternoon, I will take them to gym training later...that's all I have planned for today. I need milk and bananas as dd1 just made pancakes and used all we had, the pest:D

Asda are processing my refund for the mistakes...£3.90 refunded for the fresh stuff and £1 for the missing coke, grrrr:mad:

    Urgh, it's snowing:(
