Maralum's debt pixie.

I feel so stupid!
I just got conned into paying £4 for something I didn't want. Sounds trivial, but in our house £4 is food. I was in the high street and a woman asked me a question, I couldn't hear her properly and not wanting to be rude, I asked her to repeat it. The woman then said that she was a gypsy and would curse my baby if I didn't buy one of her charms.
I won't say the word I'd like to use to describe her, it just wouldn't be ladylike. Normally, I'm not superstitious, but when it comes to having a baby in my belly, I can't help myself. I don't mind being cursed personally, but an attack on a pregnant woman's fears, that's just mean.
So now I have a crappy gold pixie, it's about 1cm tall and very ugly. Instead of letting this upset me, I'm going to try to make it something positive. Every time I think of spending money, I'm going to look at his horrid little face. Every time I have spare money, I'm going to take a peek at that nasty leer on his mug, pop a two-finger salute to that gypsy and make sure the cash goes to my bank. Every time someone tries to sell me something I don't want, I'm going to pull out my pixie and shout NO, right in their face!:D
I hate that pixie, but he might just be my saving grace.:A

I know it's scary when they say something like that.
How about making up a story and selling it for twice as much on eBay????

You go! Don't let that evil pixie win!
Are you going to keep it in your purse so you can see it everytime you try and spend some money?
I do think it's horrible someone would say something so nasty just to get £4 out of you though. And like you say, when it's your baby it's really hard to ignore, even if you don't believe in anything like that.0 -
I admire the way you have turned a negative experience into a positive one! That ugly pixie will be a constant reminder and will save you pennies in the long run:rotfl: .
On the occasions I have been approached by these charlatans, I launch into a rant in Finnish ( the beauty of being bi-lingual...) and it sounds like I'm cursing them... Oh yes, it usually makes them disappear quick smart, it is not even a curse because I just say first Finnish thing that comes into my mind ( last time it was a recipe for Finnish sweetbread).
Good luck to you and your ugly pixie:pSSB0 -
Argh I hate people like that. I had a woman con me out of £10 before for a crappy bit of lanvender wrapped in kitchen foil . Needless to say I learnt my lesson quickly from that!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

That's horrible - I can't believe someone would say something like that to a pregnant lady. Good on you for letting it motivate you to save money though, that's the best way you could possibly react.
PS If you want another pregnant lady to come with you, track her down, and kick her pixie butt, I'm available at short notice hahaha!"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Thanks you lot, I feel a bit less stupid now! Not much, but a bit!
I think I'll save the monstrous little blighter for the lassy in my tummy. May he serve as a lesson to her too.
He may end up becoming the grossest, cheapest heirloom in British history.0 -
these tactics make me cringe. It shouldnt be allowed. I have had the same thing happen to me (although not the pregnancy thing!) and have just walked away.
It will only have a an effect on you if you are weak enough to beleive in it.
Also well done on turning it around and good luck with your debtbustingOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -

She's back!!!
After nine months, that nasty witch is back in the city! But...my husband saw her before I did! I just wish I'd been there. My husband is 6ft, covered in tattoos with long hair and a huge beard and he was ANGRY. In the centre of town, she approached him and started with the usual patter. He realised who it was and shouted "You're the b***h who tried to curse my baby and frightened my pregnant wife, you make me sick!"
Needless to say, she ran off like a scalded cat. It all comes around again to those who deserve it. Heh heh.
Well, the pixie's still doing his job. We've been paying out with the CCCS since march and so far we've paid £2,300. It hasn't been easy and we still have a minimum of 11 years to go, especially since one of our biggest (Lloyds, big shock) has now started adding interest to both the loan and the overdraft again. Ho hum, one step forward...
Still, this too shall pass, am I right my fellow debt-demons?0
