Help - I can't cope any more.

Hiya,

Haven't posted in a while, we've been coping. barely, with the DMP that we started in Jan this year.
However, for the last two months we've reached mid-month with only £25 left in the bank for food, petrol and sundries. This month is not exception.
The mortgage is about to go up by £14 and we're in the process of setting up a DD for the TV license (I hadn't realised we weren't already doing this this until the conversation came up yesterday about how we might find £145!).
Then, on top of everything else, today we get a notice that MBNA are going to default us.
I'm just not sure if I can cope any more.
Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568

Oct 2012 = Current debt: £40,548.93
Oct 2013 = Current debt: £39.054.70

Who is the DMP with? You need to adjust it to take into account the additional expenses.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

It's with CCCS - we're already on a DMP of 14 years, I'm not sure they'll let us adjust it again

Absolutely. The thing about DMPS is their flexible.

If your left with so little so early in the month either:

    a. Your overspending - keep a diary and find out where.
    b. Your DMP payments are too high, and your initial SOA was not realistic.

    Get the DMP reviewed quickly.

Also - dont worry about the default. If your on a DMP ALL the debts on it will get defaulted, and normally around the 6 month point. The "agreements" are short term arrangements not long term (that DMPs are). Thats actually what you want (and the earlier the better) - or the debts will show much longer on your credit file.

    Posted when you did :)

Ive been on a CCCS DMP for 12 years, and it gets adjusted at least once a year at review time - and often 2 times a year as my outgoings vary quite a lot (job related).

um - question. How come the MBNA card isnt defaulted already? was it not on your DMP - and if not why not. if it was taken out since the DMP - why? you cant take further credit when on a DMP.
  • Give them a call BlushingRose & let them know your situation, I've heard & read others stating that they aren't judgmental and you can come to some kind of other arrangement.

    Hope you get sorted

    All the best

    Hi there,
Give them a ring. Something isn't right - a DMP is supposed to be manageable, challenging but manageable. You must need to adjust your SOA with them? Don't focus on how many years the thing will take, focus on the here and now - the number of years is irrelevant really because this DMP will fail if you don't get a realistic liveable amount to live on each month.

..oh, on the default. The sooner the better really. They will all default you, but at least if it's earlier the six years of the default's life is already ticking away.

It was on the DMP and we've been making payments on it and our other cards. However, so far, no-one's issued a default until now.

Re-reading the letter from MBNA, they're saying that they want £800 by the 24th or they *may* default....but they probably will.
I'd post our current SOA but I'm scared of judgement. We think we're living close to the bone but I'm sure others will think we're not, I dunno.
