Help, don't know what to do

We are currently looking at buying a house, been renting too long. Its not our first house as we both had houses previously with other partners but now we want our first house together. Just don't know where to turn.
My husband tried to get a mortgage with Northern Rock last year but only had an average credit score and was turned down, we looked at credit reports and all we could find was a couple of late payments, only days. He earns a good salary £44800 and we were looking for about 140k max, but ideally less, we only want a manageable mortgage with allowance if rates go up. We know we can afford this as its about the same as we are paying rent. We have 10% deposit up to this amount. We both have credit card debts however, from a time when money didn't matter!!! I am currently not working looking after toddler. We have a couple of questions, which lender would consider us. Also they take debts into account when applying for a mortgage, as we both have debts but my husband works we considered just him applying, or should we both apply.
Any comments appreciated.

I cant really see to much of a problem with just a couple of late payments especially if you have a 10% deposit. Speak to an independent mortgage adviser like me there are plenty on this forum who give free adviceI like to give people as many choices as possible to do what I want them to.
