Advice please with bailiff's

Hi, i'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in but i am in a predicament and need some advice as i don't know the legalities of the situation i am in.

About 6 months ago i received a speeding ticket in the post. It was, if memory serves correct for the amount of £80. I filled out the information sheet with all my details with the intention of paying the fine when it returned, unfortunately i moved house in the meantime and completely forgot about the ticket. I didn't have my post forwarded so I received no further communication on the issue and never thought about it. Last week i bumped into the person that now lives in the flat i was in and he informed me he was getting bailiff letters regarding this ticket. He gave me a letter from "MARSTON GROUP" who now claim i owe £555. The letter is to claim goods to the value of the fine, also on the back it lists a number of extra charges that will probably have gone through by now so my fine could very easily have increased to the thousands. I understand that i have to shoulder much of the blame as it was my negligence that forgot about the ticket but it's easy to do when your moving house. I work in a minimum wage care job and there is absolutely no way i can afford this size of fine.
Is there any way i can pay the original fine? I'm not sure what my next course of action should be. I am getting worried

Any help would be greatly appriciated
