BPO collections - unspecified debt HELP!

Options
I saw some other threads on BPO collections here and wonder if anyone can help me?

I'm also freaking out here. I received a letter from BPO after a week in hospital (perfect welcome home present) saying I owe Glasgow City Council 226.68 but not detailied for what and when. I left Glasgow in 2009 and have received no correspondence from the council themselves?

The letter had a threatening sign off:

"Failure to pay this amount will leave us no alternative than to recommend to our client that legal action or a home visit may be the only option we have to recover the outstanding balance due."

As an opening letter that's pretty sharp.

Any advice gratefully received.

TIA

C

It's unreasonable to ask you to make payment if they're not explaining what it is.

You could send a prove-it to the collector
  • I've spoken to BPO and they've told me that if I'm querying I need to pick up with GCC, so I will call them tomorrow and see what it is relating to. I'm sure I have paid for the period they are chasing.

    Thank you
