LOL It's chaos here, I'd better warn you!
Yes, dry weight 8 oz. I'll go measure the dish I cook it in now. It's exactly the right size.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
It's a pyrex one. 11" by 7" by 2" We had it yesterday with mushrooms and celery in. DH thought he hated celery but cleared his plate. Now he's looking forward to the Delia recipe for the braised celery.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

It is gorgeous
Sorry, I promise I am going to try this at the weekend and let you know how it turns out - just bought some yellow stickered chicken when i popped out to buy wrapping paper for MIL's Mothers' Day present  so HM fajitas for us tonight (DH has been begging for them) and galette au chou tomorrow.
I also realise that every time i post on this thread I mention meat. Seriously, I hope that doesn't offend anyone
The other recipes sound great too - will be trying the lentil shepherds pie soon. There's a section in the Tighwad Gazette called something like 'lentil recipes for lentil haters' which I keep meaning to try out on DH. Anyway and ideas for a fussy veggie DS who doesn't like eggs pastry, mash or quorn. He is the only veggie in the family. But his list of dislikes make it very difficult for me to think of dinner for him when I have been to work all day. Everything he dislikes seems to rule out most easy, quick, I am hungry right now options. And I dont think it is good for him living on pasta and pittza.
Will he eat Polenta? You can make a batch, chill in the fridge, cut it up and fry/grill/bake it off in portions. Top with fried mushrooms, spinach and cheese (we like blue!) and it is fast and yummy!
You don't have to buy the expensive premade stuff either- I buy big bags of Natco cornmeal for about a pound and you could make a LOT of polenta out of one of those (one cup of cornmeal will make enough for four portions)0 -
This is fantastic. Sadly I am a vegetarian but an absolutely hopeless cook so tend to eat nuts etc. This thread has given me some great ideas.0

Thank you. My dd is veggie. Since its just the two of us, I have decided to join her. This is very helpful and given me some ideas to start with. I find a lot of recipes have too many expensive ingredients, but this is ideal for my budget.0

Just had the gallete again by request of DH! I used 200ml milk, baked it at 180 degrees for 45 mins. I used generous amounts of onion, salt, garlic, thyme and sage (instead of parsley.) I'll measure the dish and let you know the size. It fitted perfectly.
Result? Oh my word! Totally delicious. Sort of like a huge dumpling with a pie crust.:D
We had it with broccoli but roast tomatoes are nicer with it.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
We went out for lunch on Friday for mothers’ day and MIL came to visit with a huge spread yesterday so that meant that we didn’t need some of our plan. Also, I didn’t know how much of each thing I’d be getting so the plans would have changed slightly anyway to accommodate that. For example, we ate all the tomatoes with the gallete and in sandwiches, so we didn’t have the pasta dish. We used all the potatoes with the shepherd’s pie so I made the nut roast with cauliflower cheese (I had the cauli left over from the previous week.) We didn’t have the beans on toast and I made the gallete twice.
I think it went well. The only waste was a few left over sprouts. I love sprouts so I’m a bit annoyed at myself but not a bad week really, especially thanks to Churchmouse who encouraged me to get the gallete just right!
I’ll post next week’s menu soon. Working on it now.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
