hi, just had a look at the burger receipe, looks great but as its only me that eats them would be freezing the rest. Could someone please advise on the freezing bit......can I freeze them?? would it be best to cook first then freeze? or freeze the mixture? also would I defrost them first or cook from frozen?? many thanks to anyone who can help0

I haven't done this yet but I'd freeze them before cooking, but in burger shapes. You can cook bought ones from frozen so I can't see any reason not to with these. Just make sure they're cooked thoroughly.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

I froze my veggie burgers with no problem, just formed then into burger shapes and chucked them in the freezer!!
What I'll probably do when we go to eat them is take them out of the freezer and let them defrost in the fridge overnight/allday before cooking them.

Delia's plum and sour cream flan is delicious, though as it contains pastry and dairt, might not be what you were afterJust noticed the plum oatmeal slices, too - like a fruity flapjack. Great with custard or in a lunchbox.
Alternatively, stew the plums (with a little sugar, possibly) and some cinnamon. Serve with shortbread biscuits and cream/ice cream/creme fraiche.

4oz plain flour
Pinch salt
1 egg
1/2 pint milk (or less - batter mustn't be too thin)
Oil
1 onion
1 courgette
1 tin chopped tomatoes
Herbs
Feta cheese
1. Make up the batter and put in fridge for 30 minutes.
2. Fry onion and chopped courgette, add tomatoes and herbs. Cook until sauce has thickened and reduced.
3. Heat oven to 200deg and put some oil in 7-inch sandwich tins; put in oven until oil is hot. Pour a ladleful of batter into each and cook until risen and golden. Meanwhile reheat veg sauce on a low heat.
4. Dollop veg sauce into cooked Yorkshires and sprinkle on feta cheese. You could add mushrooms, sweetcorn, olives, grilled/fried halloumi, caraway seeds - anything you fancy really. Makes a nice change from pasta, rice and potatoes.Nelly's other Mr. Hyde0 -
Just wanted to say that I bought a slow cooker last week, it's been very successful so far, I made the 'slow cooker curry' on Friday. The whole family loved it and requested it again for Sunday, it was delicious!!! :T I was pleased because I was able to use up all the leftovers the second time, so cheap to make. Also this is the first time I've cooked with celery and I was surprised to find I really enjoyed it, I've always avoided it before now
To keep things even cheaper, over the weekend, I cooked up and froze a big bag of chick peas0 -
Penny those recipes look amazing. Thanks. I made plum crumble and had made enough crumble mixture to make a mango crumble a couple of days later. Big thumbs up for the mango crumble. I just wouldn't have expected that to work somehow. I got a mango today but unfortunately it was rotten and have had my money back on it.
Is it summer yet? Should I start a Summer thread? I've got runner beans and asparagus, so I suppose that's summery?Edit: here it is!
Tam Lin that sounds really nice. I don't have anything to cook it in but I'll try to use that one as soon as I can get hold of some tins.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

Just to say, I have been searching for a v e r y long while for a beanburger recipe that the whole family enjoys, and here it was, under my nose on MSE! I found your recipe circituitously via a google search, and decided to give them a go - they were simple and delicious!!
I used one tin red kidney beans, and one tin of mixed beans in a spicy tomato sauce. They were a hit with everyone - made plenty (the freezer has 5 for another day).
Thanks so much Gingham!0 -
Hey Gingham, my checkered friend - we loved the galette au chou. Sort of a weird cross between a vegetable omelet and a batter pudding with cabbage. I cooked off the bacon, onion and garlic as I'm not keen on them put into this kind of thing raw.
I'm sure it is meant to feed at least four - but there is about a sixth left over for a sandwich tomorrow!:p There are only two of us - oink oink!
I saw what you said and served it with roasted tomatoes, lovely!
Tomorrow I think we will have the shepherds pie and brocoli (how many l's!)0
