Thanks to all posters so far. Elise, what's LGS? ( and what other non teaching job do you do, just being nosey?) I am thinknig more that I will definitely be going for some sort of full time, whether it be just the teaching or the teaching with promotion. A friend further reinforced it last night by putting across the point that if I work harder now, and push the pension pot up then maybe I won't have to work quite so long then!
I do own the house ( with ex) but at some point in the future he will be entitled to half the profits, and I can't extend the mortgage at the moment based on what I earn now. He's in no rush to have it, but if I earn more I will be able to pay him back earlier.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Local Government pension. My other role is as a personal learning adviser (tutor/mentor). I basically see all the students in our department, do 1 to 1's with them to ensure that they are achieving in all their classes and if they're not, how they can be supported to do better, make sure they get financial support, any help with dyslexia or other needs etc etc
It's a great job apart from all the paperwork as I get to work with so many great kids and the best bit is when the ones that start off with barely anything get good grades & get into Uni or apprenticeships or brilliant jobs.
A few disappointments sometimes but more successes than not.

Go for it and if you get it, then you can decide if you really want it or not. You can still change your mind at that point

On the other hand you increase your pension contributions and TPS is still the best around...
I think the pensions thing does need careful consideration, along with everything else. I now work a four day week, not in teaching, and I'd absolutely hate to lose my 'day off'!

Well, I went for it. Mad emy decision and spoke to the head today. I just asked for full time, as I get the impression he might not be offering the 'extra responsibility' part just yet. He wanted it in writing ASAP so I dashed off a letter at lunchtime, and now I've just got to wait to hear. I think I'll be quite disappointed if I don't get it now, I can already see my savings getting bigger!

Best laid plans and all that..... The head came to see me today, he'd given my letter to the Governors who turned round and said I was welcome to apply for the job ( closing date Friday) but I would need to apply, interview and be observed like any other applicant. Poor head was really apologetic, said that it wasn't what he would have done, but that he had to go with what they said. I could understand that if I was applying for a promotion, but this was the same job but on full time hours, so just the job I am doing already. No way I can even contemplate getting a CV together for Friday ( haven't had an interview in 17 years!) so I'm going to let this one pass me by, and think there will be another opportunity at Christmas.
