Mum's 50th - Ideas please....

For my sister we booked a day at GO APE. 20 of us went and had a brilliant time. Only a few knew what was involved, we all just got on with it! I f I had seen the whole course before we did it, not sure we would have gone but great fun.
Also it is something you can all do together, not isolated. Not for everyone but unforgettable. It is possible to walk the course on the ground so the less able can enjoy pleasant walk in the forest too.0 -
check the red letter days before you buy nad do your research. Often they can be purchased directly a lot cheaper eg my hubby knows the 'drive a steam train' one can be bought from the steam railway itself a LOT cheaper.
What about 50 presents - small things funny things etc0 -
For my mum's 50th we bought her a beautiful long gold chain, something she had always wanted and never had, anything gold would be appropriate for 50
There's a link in the Hampers Index at the top of the first page of this board to a "Golden Hamper" which someone created for a 50th Birthday... Continuing the theme, have a look at the "Pot of Gold"... you never know, you may end up giving your mum a million pound winning scratchcard :rotfl:0 -
Although my mum had a party for her 50th one of things she still remembers vivdly (apart from the stripper that she thoroughly enjoyed lol) were the photos we found and enlarged and stuck around the room. Perhaps you could hunt some old photos down (to bring back some good memories for her) and print them out A4 and plaster them around her house or even put them in a scrapbook.0

It doesn't say anywhere that this is just for blokes. I bet she would love it!0 -
How about creating a photo album, or getting a digital frame with some lovely 'milestones' on

I made my mum a free montage from old family photos. It was very quick and easy to do. This one took me about 20 minutes. I shared this with everyone in the family and we had great fun laughing at the home made swim suits and remembering that lovely holiday

What about a night out but using a stretch limo? Did it for my dad (80th) a year ago - total surprise and he loved it (six of us went to Harry Ramsdens - not my choice but he loves the place)Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

Used the same idea for my godparents 50th wedding anniversary. We bought 50 gold things all wrapped individually in tissue paper and then in a big gold box.
Can't see why you couldn't use the same idea for a 50th birthday (although maybe not all gold.) We included lots of small bits from gold nail varnish, spirits with gold flecks, candles, chocs (all from supermarkets or cheapy shops) with a few quality pressies. Necklace and champagne flutes and photo frame. My dad also threw some *comedy* bits in - i seem to remember Marigold rubber gloves and plant seeds.
We all had a laugh opening them and my godmother said it was like being a kid at Christmas again. Not sure if that’s good???I'm so boring, my clothes wanna keep someone else warm, someone cooler0 -
