We are taking her to the theatre for Mothers day so are stuck for an idea for her birthday.

We usually do either flowers/ perfume/ or jewellery but wanted a novel idea for her birthday this year!

Any ideas.....please!!!!!! I havent got a clue!!!!!!!

for my mum's 50th we bought her one of those experience days from WHSmith, so she got to pick when she wanted to go race car driving!! Since you've got a month, maybe there's an experience day that she would like that you could arrange for her birthday?

Was thinking about this but don't know anyone who has ever been on one. Are they worth it, and are they the 'experience' that they are advertised to be?? Would hate to organise something and then find that that it wasnt up to scratch!

friends of mine went on a hot air balloon flight and thought it was fantastic - everything they dreamt it would be!

Does your mum have any hobbies or interests you could get her something for?

What about a pamper session - would she like a massage, reflexology session or a colour consultation?

Something else might be a family 'scrapbook' you could each write a memory in there and donate photos or if you are a cooking family, you could share some favourite recipes and create a family cookbook.

A friend recently bought her husband a limousine trip for his 40th - he loved that.

maybe she would value something like 'time' - could you take her on a shopping trip or out for a meal, just the two of you?

Have a wonderful day, whatever you decide :o

  • Thanks bigpaws23, the idea of a red letter day is really growing on me. My mum is one of those people who has 'never had anything' so doesnt want anything if you understand what I mean.

Maybe a red letter day would be great and will be something to be remembered for the next 50 years!! Thanks again!
  • Ooooh just checked out some experiences, I think I may go with the bungee jumping......I will go along just to watch! lol

    Hi

I have done a few experiences.

Track day at Oulton Park - this was a fair few years ago... a few training laps in a BMW with instructor showing you the lines etc. Then a drive in a single seater Formula First car... excellent!

Flying a microlight - this was a flight with an instructor and able to take control in the air and also let me attempt a landing! again excellent!

Tandem skydive - what can I say that was excellent!

    Quad biking - again brilliant.

You get the picture, these experience days are fantastic fun.

Since this is your mum, would a spa day be more suitable, my wife has been to Hoarcross Hall and Ragdale Hall for this sort of thing and the feedback was good about both days. So much so that she wants us to go as a couple.
  • Hi Savealot, your experiences sound great. As In said in previous posts I wanted to buy my mum a bungee jump as shes always going on how she would like to do one.

After consultation with my dad though, he isnt too keen!! So will have a look into maybe the flying as that sounds great!

The spa days are more my scene than my mums, but your wife's recommendations sound fab!! Thanks again!
  • For my 50th my brothers & sisters clubbed together and paid for a couple of nights in a really nice B&B in Scotland. Is there somewhere she would like to visit with your dad - you've got time to book a couple of cheap rail tickets and try LateRooms for good hotels at reasonable prices. OH and I went to Edinburgh for a couple of days and had a great time. Even pre-booked a couple of great restaurants.
Or if you want to splash out what about somewhere like Paris, Prague, Florence or Venice?

For my mum's 50th we bought her a beautiful long gold chain, something she had always wanted and never had, anything gold would be appropriate for 50 :)
