Well I have found 5 cars one maybe going tonight (micra mot May), one is an hour away (seicento mot April) and three are 'ok' (Jan and April mots) and are in the city. Otherwise nothing, unless I want a huge 2l thing that my insurance will rocket on.
Cars being collected later, will get back the cost of the MOT
You know how I like working out if something has given me value for money, well just for fun...
Car cost - £300 (May 29th 2012)
Insurance - £1486 (includes interest, one year + three months)
Tax - £148.28 (will get 3 months refund though)
Repairs - £132.14
MOT - £169.66 (last year, no idea why I thought it was £300)
MOT - £45.00 (this year - fail)
New seat/boot hydraulics/parcel shelf - Free
1 year 3months motering cost - £2281.08 / 15 = £152 per month... Just under one weeks wage per month to run. However running the car has given me over £12k income so not too bad really :rotfl:0 -
So kinda contemplating dropping to p/t hours with work and not bothering with a car...
There is nothing out there at the moment its all sold, MOT due in 1-6months or its over budget or it has more miles than my old car. That is me not being picky, thats looking at cars I said I would never own.
Without taking on debt or borrowing money from friends/family it looks like there is no way I can purchase a car. So I have thought if I go p/t at work (main person 19hr per week) and maybe go on some rounds that need two people I can scrape £123 a week before tax which is conviently my bills plus £40 for petrol. I can then take temp jobs (nights) for christmas to build up a larger pot for a car?
I really see no point spending £470 or £550 (with what I can spare from pay this week) on a car that only has a small MOT which will cost me money in the new year. Money that I may/may not be able to accumulate.
The only problem is I may lose my job if the company will not agree with the terms. I truly don't want to take on debt, I work for min wage and already owe over £9000 -

I am fine Beanie, thats life sadly and when you have no savings or buffer to save then these things happen. I am not going to land myself with more debt/stress just to work min wage though.
That being said I have found two more cars, both with new mot's... but they are each an hour away in opposite directions :rotfl: I am going to leave car searching for tonight and have a think...0 -
Prob a good idea to have a think.
Have you spoken to work?
Could you try applying to council for similar work or is it all outsourced?

Yes, I am biking/walking most of the weekend and Mum is driving me too (in a broken car). Next week hasn't even been looked at, I am off Monday. No down here it is all private except those that have just left hospital (<2 weeks) and they work the same as us, your own cars.

You maybe my lucky charmJust after your post Mum arrived home, one of her work collegues goes to a garage only 30min away. He has a car (as old as the one I have just scrapped) but it has 1 year mot and 1 year tax... £300 :T For that I don't mind taking the chance as its the same price as my old car. Fingers crossed, off to see it soon...
