Also, the student room website has a personal statement checking forum, they are all themed by study area - so someone who's doing nursing or similar will proofread your statement - all free and they are really helpful0

Many thanks all, I am going to have a go at it this weekend with a view to sending the application on Monday. After today I am going to get this qualification and do my degree even if it kills me. Right now I don't care if I end up having to leave work. Time to get a bit selfish before its too late and I am stuck in this position until I die.
The college application asks for a Personal Statement -Please give you reasons for choosing this course, why you think you are a suitable candidate and how the course fits into your future career plans.
This section will help us to assess the suitability of this course for you. Limit 850 words (continue on to seperate sheet if necessary).
I have to apply to uni beforethe 15th of Jan but I am hoping my college teacher/s will help with that. Obviously my first choice will be UWE but if I need to take a course further away from home then so be it. But my second choice would be Cardiff as I could commute if I chosse to.
Snaggs thanks for offering to proof readI am unsure if I should ask my manager or my current trainer to write a statement for me too, just to add a bit of weight. Or do you think it would be frowned upon?

Hi Pap, you are going to make a go of this.
If you need help with your personal statement pm me I teach MSc level courses and deal with admissions for those courses including personal statements for mature students. You may well be asked for a reference from your employers as you are working in the caring professions. Don't worry about what happens if you don't get in, concentrate on getting in your best possible application.
Practice, practice, practice for the Maths it is technique as much as knowledge. Once you get your application in then you can work out plan b and c incase you need them.
From what you write here you are clearly articulate and numerate, they know you will be nervous, you will have much more relevant experience than many applicants.
Good luck!0 -

Thankyou so much Toots and Beanie
Toots, I am not overly worried about this statement as it doesn't have to be of the same quality as a uni one but I would still like it to be as accurate and the best quality I can provide. However its selling yourself and when you arn't in that mind set it can be hard. I have bashed out 650ish words so far but if any of it is any good who knows. I am going to look at it again tomorrow before sending pm's :rotfl:
I am not overly worried about not getting this course, if I don't this I will nextHowever I think I have as good a chance as any! I am going to be PMA about this now and what will be will be.
Very true regards to maths, I can only do my best. My problem with maths is because I was 'lost' in secondary and no one seemed to care then I gave up on myself. So if I now need to knuckle down and learn from scratch I will do. I will do everything I can to make this possible. One piece of info I have from the college is that you can demostrate maths and english to lvl 2 but then the other info says 'You will also be studying GCSE equivalent in both English and Mathematics'. So maybe if I am close to lvl 2 they may accept me anyway.
You are also true regards to that. I have read online and seen online videos of people gaining places on access courses with no qulifications and no experiance so at least I have something going for me :T
I have other plans if I don't get on the course this year but I haven't thought about them in depth because I am determind to get on this course. I need to live not survive

Thanks Beanie
I have worked on my personal statement a little more today but have put it to one side for nowWorked this morning and droped off some things for charity. Then went shopping to the big £shop, deadly because its next to that doughnut shop! Anyways spent £2 on a pad of paper and car air freshner, 50p on a reduced folder (thinking of September
) and £1.70 for some pegs (for work). All not really needed, except the air freshner and the pegs but its not a huge expense.
The cake tin is now sadly just a general tinI had £25 in there so I have transfered that online into my MOT saves and I will use that for tomorrow :T
Now off to bake cakes... Have a great weekend all

Completed my personal statement, will be filling in/printing the application tomorrow and shall send it Thursday :j
I went to the exhibition and it was amazing! Well worth the entry and will go again once they have updated it. The walk through is still mentioning Amy and Rory for any fans out there. So that was £20 entry/travel/parking plus I spent £6.64 while I was there (2* post cards (I collect these from places I have been all my life), scribble set, floating pen, mini dalek and a bag) plus brought a scone for lunch £2.50. I was tempted by some weeping angel figures £10 and a weeping angel wooden poster/art work £40 but quickly left :rotfl:
So budget:
£339.93
£120 car saves
£146 bills
£20.00 Paypal (brother gave me cash to transfer into paypal for him the £20 cash he gave me paid for Dr who)
£4.34 martins (rubbish today, including a caffine drink)
= 290.34
Remaining - £49.59. Will go swimming on Thursday but hoping for at least £30 to put away for MOT. CC has been paid this month :T
15days until last loan payment
