Pap. - do you get the full amount back from your employer that you are allowed to claim? If you use your own car for work, then I think you are allowed 45p per mile - went up April 2010 I think. If you don't, then you can reclaim the difference from HMRC I think.

  • Dangers, I have read about that before but unsure how I go about it as I am sure you have to calculate the miles yourself and then claim for them in April? Obviously since work have been calculating my miles theirselves I haven't done this. However I could use my wage slips to work out the miles I suppose... I only get 20p per mile at present. Need to search out the thread/article. Many thanks!

Beanie, I am sure I still have this from back at the old employer, however for the price of a stamp its worth sending a letter. Many thanks to you too!

The info may be supplied on your P11D when you receive it at the end of the tax year. I've had a quick google and the form you can fill in is (I think!) a P87.
Hope that helps - its an extra 25p per mile!! (Only upto 10,000 miles)

    Hi Dangers,

Can't say I have even seen/been given a P11D will try and get/print a P87. I don't do that many miles but every pennys a prisoner :rotfl: I am very happy now that I can claim back all my car parking fees. I only use it once/twice a week but at £3 a pop it all mounts up.

NSD today, had a store cupboard dinner and been spending free time reading diarys on here. Need to find some more books for free on Amazon soon!

I think you should get a P11 if you claim expenses. My OH certainly does, yet I've never had one as never claimed expenses from an employer.

Did you do any business mileage when you first started - maybe that's why you didn't get one for last tax year.

Hi Dangers, I did do miles for last year but I don't claim expenses. I just get payed a set amount (each month) from my employer per mile and then claim back my parking through work too. None of which go through the tax man as I am not self employed. I do however not pay tax on any mileage payments I recieve.

:o Not such a NSD. just spent £21.61 on towels inc postage. I have yet again found sore's where these cheaper plastic ridden things have rubbed! So before my 2013 budget above starts I have stocked up. I found a new supplier online too with 5% off + 1-3% off on top due to amount of packets I have purchased. That means I have 280 to last me until I need to re order. I still have a handful of these left and one box of the horrible ones to use but at least I will not be using them day in day out now. If I am ever truely on then I know of an on the shelf brand that I can use which are generally quite cheap. I estimate I will need to re order Aug or Sep depending on usage :T

    £86.96 remaining in bank!

PAP...cars eh! Mine is currently languishing in a garage and I am stuck in Liverpool. Getting a lift home today and having to hire a car till next week.

However, yes you can claim excess mileage back from the Revenue. You need to look at how much your company have paid you in mileage from April 2011 - March 2012 ( so how many miles at how much you have been paid) and then use form P87 to claim the difference back from the revenue. You can download the form from the interweb.

Employers who pay expenses are supposed to complete a P11d but many don't as they don't realise they have to (given that there are no tax implications)
