Thanks Beanie, that my aim but I will see how things go with this car first. If I decide I need one asap then I will get another poorly car (also a Fiat) and then plough on for the Smart. I am hoping I maybe able to get some extra hours in work too.

Paid £4.50 into my saver today (floating cash) and counted my penny pots and the totals are in my signature. I can get a refund on my tax I just need to pick up the form from the post office/dvla office. Hopefully I will get 5 months back which could be up to £50. Decided to put old car on ebay with a reserve, going to be honest and list the faults but I want at least £150, hence the reserve.

Then we will see how things go, fingers crossed I manage to save faster than I think.
  • £500 Top-up loan hit my account today...

    £74.25 - tax
£3.40 - 3* air freshner for car (it has a musty smell) and selotape (to return tax disc)
£1.55 - recorded delivery fee to return tax disc
    £120.00 - returned to a friend
    £33.27 - petrol

I know there is £4.95 spent which shouldn't have been used according the 'the plan' but it was all needed. The tape and postage means I should get £50 back and the air freshners are to make the car a little more pleasent to be in.

I also sold my radio from the old car, new car has a perfectly good radio (well only the CD player works really) and will do until I purchase my new car. So put £35.00 back into my bank. That leaves £301.68 in my current account. So am already a little up on my budget above. I have put the £1.68 into my saver and have 16p in penny's to add to the pot, both mine and Mum's.

Now off to list the poorly car on ebay :(

Hi Pap, good to see you back but shame about the loan: cars can't do without them, nightmare when they go wrong. Good luck with your endeavours to save for a Smart Car.
  • Sparkle, it hasn't gone on yet. I crashed last night and my Mum had the computer. Going to write the listing tonight and list it Saturday night I think. Gives people move of a chance to bid :D

    Thanks Toot.

So I didn't get as much holiday pay as I thought I would have got. Ended with £116 after the taxman took £40  So that left £416.00, I pushed the £6 into savings which left £410. I have been out this afternoon and got some food shopping, basically Mum can't afford any grocerys until I pay her on the 15th (there is a reason). So we had empty cupboards and an empty fridge, I have spent £20.05 in Aldi. That leaves £389.95 I have also transferred £10 into my other current account in which to purchase an A-Z as my new car has no ciggarette lighter so can't use the tom tom. I need a way in which to find out locations and my phone is a basic model. So....

£379.95- £150.00 (insurance) = £229.95 BP so I am £70 down on where I should be, I have a low week (33) coming for hours too so it will be touch and go for bills money on the 15th but fingers crossed. If the worse comes to the worse I won't/can't pay all my rent. We shall see
  • Not much too update... Haven't managed to get an A-Z yet as they are only avalible in Halfords around here. I think I am going to chance getting a second hand (2005 print) one from ebay. After all the main roads can't have changed that much surely :o

Mum has used the £10 though so have knocked that off the rent I need to pay on the 15th. I have also had an un expected 65p paypal direct debit... I forgot that I had listed my paypal on Mum's facebook page and she purchased some credits.

I have transfered £4.30 to savings, I know I shouldn't be saving just now not knowing if I can pay all of my bills on the 15th but I am only skimming off the excess. I will make that my last until Friday :D I have also nabbed Mum's piggy bank so have 68p to add to my coppers. I now have this piggy downstairs so will fill it/empty it monthly. So I am up to £21.31 in my car fund.

My old car has been listed on ebay, I will be grateful if I get the starting price however the fees will be £30. If I get no joy with that it will go on trade-it for a few weeks before it goes to the scrapper :rotfl:

Car is doing very well on petrol, so I am hoping it will work out close MPG as my old car. If not I will have to factor that cost in somewhere. Right now it might be the case that I will not have to fill it up until next weekend :T

    Spends this week -
    £74.25 - tax
£3.40 - 3* air freshner for car (it has a musty smell) and selotape (to return tax disc)
£1.55 - recorded delivery fee to return tax disc
    £120.00 - returned to a friend
    £33.27 - petrol
    £20.05 - food shopping

  • :D Skinty...

So since last update I have got 2.5hours OT from work thats an extra £16 before tax. Mum has also had another £10 from her rent payment. I spent £10.97 on more groceries and my insurance payemnt has gone out. I transfered £1.98 into savings to make my account 'square' again.

That leaves £210 in my account, I have £135.91 going in tomorrow so that totals £345.91. I need to fill my tank up so that will be £40, £305.91 remaining. My bills total £417.05 this month now Mum has already had some. So I need £111.14 pay next Friday in order for my bills to be covered. That should be fine as I am on par for £213.00 at basic day wage before tax.

Car is on ebay and has bids :j Hopefully that will be collected this weekend and anything over the fees (£30) that makes will be transferred into savings. The DVLA have also recieved my tax disc back so that should be processed in the next 2-4 weeks.

    Keep on going...
  • Payday :j

£345.91 in account this morning, £50.00 to Mum as a rent payment* and £36.61 petrol. The petrol money included 50p for 16rolls (reduced), I haven't purchased any food on the road since the start of this diary, I have always just waited until I came home and grabbed a roll. These reduced rolls will be split and put in the freezer and got out daily. Therefore £259.30 left in account.

    * Now I am wondering if I should talk to Mum about paying weekly. It then works out as £40 a week. At the moment I seem to be paying her adhoc and then she 'borrows' from the next months money. If I pay her weekly (into my spare account) then she can do as she pleases. It would also mean I would only need to find £277.05 on each 15th asside from her £40. Maybe its something I can bring up, opinions?

No savings to report, going to leave it until next Friday now to see how things stand. Petrol useage is going well, only filled my car up today after filling it up last Saturday. Thats 5 full days work on one tank! I have noted my milage this time and will use it until the reserve light comes on and see what I truly get from a tank. Car still at opening bids but lots of interest, will update you on that.
