Paps Penny's

Options
Long standing member back again...

So after securing a job I have wanted for years and my outgoing back under control things were looking up for Pap. Except everything came crashing down when my car broke down and after paying to get it repairs it is still faulty and beyond economical repair. So I had to go and buy a car, but in order to do that I had to increase my one debt (loan) in order to pay for it. I can't do without a car as its my only means of working as I have to drive miles each day.

So I am back and my main objective is to save every penny I have spare in order to purchase a car I do want. So here on in is my diary - Paps Penny's.

    Hi PAP,

Good luck with getting this sorted. Nice to see you are OK (other than the loan). We should all have another meet up sometime.

Just wanted to say Hi and good luck really. Better get back to work :(

Good to see you Pap. Hope the new car behaves itself for you.

Income - £960.00 (£240.00 weekly although this can/will change, plus I am on emergency tax atm)

    £160.00 - Rent
    £12.87 - House Insurance
    £37.10 - BT
    £22.08 - Dog Insurance
    £195.00 - Loan (12months remaining)
    £10.00 - RAC
    £150.00 - Car insurance

    Outgoings - £587.77

Now there is no petrol on there because I get mileage back from work, but I still obviously use some for personal use. Generally I use £40 a week but I am unsure how much I will use in this car due to it being bigger. I just use it from my surplus income and go from there.

Now that said this is how this 'month' is looking. Car insurance comes out the 4th, everything else the 15th...

£500.00 due in anytime from my top-up on loan. I then need to repay a friend £120 as they helped fund the new car until the loan hits. £380.00 in current account. I then need to tax (£75) and put petrol (£50) into the new car, so that leaves £255

£255 in account (BP = Before Petrol)
    1st - £200 approx (holiday pay) - £150.00 out - £305.00 left BP
    8th - £100 (this weeks work, lost days) - £405.00 left BP
    15th - £240 (normal hours) - £437.05 out - £207.95 left BP

I will go into detail about 'the plan' later on but at least this is out there for all to see. Back on the waggon, although to be honest I never left it I just treated myself a bit more these past two months. Back to frugal Pap :T

Off to wash old car to get it listed on ebay and sort out claiming the tax back ;)

  • Evening all, feels funny to be back and posting. Beanie its a nissan micra (old style), feels like a tank compared to my old car but at the moment it will do the job. Mot is due in three months and it flew through its last one, so touch wood.

So 'the plan' is zero other outgoing, appart from petrol unless it is listed in my SOA. The only exception is medications, toiletries and phone credit. Food is included in my rent but I will have to start taking food with me each day incase I am caught short and need food on the go. My aim is about £900 to get the same car as I had/have before but depending on how things go I may keep saving up to £2,500 in order to purchase a car I have always wanted/wanted to drive.

So here goes, I will update weekly with my income/outgoing and any spends/nsd's I have had that week and how my savings are progressing. I will have a penny pot and a pot in a savings account. Obviously I have zero savings just now after paying for my car repairs last week so things can only get better ;)

I've had 3 Nissan Micras in my time. Lovely little cars and quite reliable. What is the car you have always wanted?

  • :) Beanie, that makes me feel better. I am not knocking the car its a good car for the age and it will do the job. It just feels too big for me and far too heavy. However I am thankful that I am still in employment.

Em, I have only ever wanted three cars... The one thats poorly on the drive, a Fiat 500 (classic) although I do like the new style and a Smart car. Its the Smart thats around £2,500 depending on the reg and a replacement poorly car is between £500 and £1,000. So I am going to see how the savings go, if I get the income I wish for and keep to 'the plan' I could get one in 4months and the other in 9months. The only thing standing in the way of that is this car's mot.
