I have a job interview on tuesday this is a job i really want! last month i went for the same interview, it went well but i was unsuccessful, feedback i got was: i presented myself well answeres were really good and i was really close so i asked what it might been to why i didnt get the job and she said it may have been the scoring the other candidates may have given longer answers and told me to keep an eye out in the future and apply again! feeling ok at this point! however few days later! to my suprise the job was readvertised so i applied again and know have a 2nd interview!

The job is with NHS as a Newborn Hearing Screener
there were initially 3 posts for the jobs 2 are filled and 1 was readvertised.

I would really appreciate your help/tips.

Following questions were asked as far as i can remember.

Tell me about about yourself ? (hate this question)

Why do you want to work for the NHS?

What you would do if results of newborn baby's hearing was negative and the parent's were distressd/angry ? how would you calm them down?

If i turned up one morning and one of the staff phoned in sick what would you do? (in terms of workload etc)

Why team work is important?

could really do with the help

It sounds like you did well before so take heart from that. Just remember to give detailed and in depth answers without rambling or repeating yourself, as if it's like my place you need to score lots of points for each answer.

The thing is that you have to go in believing you can do the job and that should show through. Do lots of research and practice answering questions out load (much better than in your head). Think about your strengths and weaknesses, examples of good work you've done, where you see your career going and examples that demonstrate your skills.

Is there someone like your line manager or a respected senior member of staff who can give you a mock interview?
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

So true - short and concise is better - a good interviewer will explore. Google the STAR technique for how to structure a response and have lots of examples ready to draw upon. Oh yes, be very patient-centred and show that you're a team player.

    Good luck x

On re-reading the OP I do wonder why the recruiter went out to ad again rather than offering you the role when one of the successful candidates dropped out? You are in an execellent positiion though, so have faith. And better examples.

Hope is not a strategy :D...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

    1. I am really interested in issues to do with hearing because..... And especially interested that hearing loss should be diagnosed early because.........

    2. I am committed to the idea of NHS and free healthcare for all because..... so would really like to work there.

    3. Body language (sit down, get them to sit down. Private space, allowing them space for their distress). Convey the message that there may be interventions to help, but even if not, lots of Deaf people are successful and lead happy fulfilled lives.

    4. Review diary, see what I could pick up, ensure appts are cancelled (your chance to ask about admin support!)

    5. Exchanging expertise, different POVs, multi-disciplinary sharing.

    HTH!
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
