Help - how to get rid of 'burnt pan' smell!

Yesterday I managed to let a saucepan of potatoes boil dry on the hob, filling the house with smoke and leaving a horrible acrid burnt smell throughout. I've had all the windows open and managed to air most of the house but the smell still remains in the kitchen. I've tried scented candles, air freshener and leaving some zoflora soaking in the sink but can't get rid! Anyone have any o/s suggestions?

Thanks in advance x

Have you binned the pan? not in the kitchen bin...

get the windows open, smells cling to everything so looks like you got your work cut out as you gotta start washing down things, has the kitchen window got curtains, yep more washing.
You can try sprays but even them and candles just mask a smell and when they fade the pong is back, washing away anything that stinks is the only sure way to get rid.

invest in a little kitchen timer i did when i burnt the rolls in the oven now even if i'm using the hob i pop the timer on thus reminding me when it rings i got something in the kitchen that needs attention.
now i set my time for 13 minutes and my rolls are baked to perfection.
    goodluck.

try half filling a pan with water and a good skoosh of washing up liquid, put it on the stove to boil a while. it's good for getting rid of fishy or curry-y cooking smells - might help

This happened to me before with rice, it was nasty but not as bad as your burnt pan sounds. I just aired the flat out overnight, and did what madnotstupid said - boiled washing up liquid in the pan for an hour, and then giving the pan a good scour. Not sure what else you could do, sorry.

Boil vinegar in the pan that is burnt - clears the air and cleans the pan
Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j

You dont say what type of coating there is on the pan but I`d try putting a couple of tablespoonfuls of soap powder in the pan together with water. Bring to boil and leave on simmer for about half an hour ( use timer!) Afterwards use brillo for any marks left. Rinse pan well afterwards. HTH.
