Trying to reclaim PPI I asked a CMC last week for firstly some advice and what help they could offer, very quickly they were more interested in telling me they charge 30% then VAT then a further 8% for something else, thankfully some of the superstars on this site have really helped me so far to begin doing it myself and away I have gone...but...I rang the CMC on Saturday to say I am not interested and to cancel any courier they had hastily arranged to come collect documents as Id seen the light, it took me 25 mins to get off the phone after being told I will win nothing and lose everytime by myself, I said id take my chances and have other helpers and asked to be no longer contacted to which they agreed, now today is wednesday and I have now been rang daily with frivoulous reasons to contact me and that they thought "i only wanted to cancel 1 claim not others..." the original call to them was to ask what service they offer and what they would do for me, before they said they were sending claim forms etc.. etc.. Im not sure if its ok to name and shame them on here but anybody else looking for PPI reclaiming Id certainly say that help is out there on this site and more than happy posters often help so please think first before going with them. And the calls Ive received are now getting borderline harassment.

You can name and shame, might help prevent some other user from going with them.

Well done on going it alone (with MSE users support) :)

MSE is here to support and help you, you can ask these companies to stop contacting you else it will be considered harassment, plenty of threads on how to do this or ask and we will post a link.

You are already a "brighter spark" because you realised these companies are taking you for a ride.

There are some great people on here and they won't care how much you ask them or test their patience, they will offer help where they can.

I expect they either thrive on people afraid or unaware of the ease to claim or those too busy, or actually whom may not know just how strong a case they may have, until I used MSE id have gone to a CMC and thankfully didnt do, my eyes are opened and I ve learned so much in such a short space of time, its daunting, but even the banks say a CMC wont get anything any quicker so why pay..

I guess because a lot of people don't want to do it themselves or haven't got the time, like a lot of things in life......going to a restaurant when you can cook at home or going to a car wash, its a perfectly acceptable thing to do, so I don't get why these companies get so much bad publicity.

You obviously work for a PPI reclaim company. The clue to help people save money on this site is in the MSE name.

If you go to a restaurant you expect more than for them to bung a ready meal from Asda into the microwave.

    They do the equivalent.

In any case, their regulator has told them they need to submit this form with the complaint. Since the questions can only be accurately answered by the complainant, it is actually the equivalent of you bringing in your own ready meal from Asda to bung in their microwave.

Couple that with the fact that the Environmental Health inspectors never check up on how hygienic the premises are and you get an idea.

I don't work for a cmc but I did use one and was very happy with the service I received. I think people that criticise them are short sighted, if it wasn't for cmc's the majority of people wouldn't even know they had potential claims. It is a fact that cmc's spent 3 years campaigning and battling banks before banks put their hands up to miss selling, it was their wide spread (and costly) publicity that broke the banks, not MSE !

I am also using a cmc for a self cert mortgage which I now know I was miss sold by an IFA. It has cost me loads over the years, its these people who need to be bought to account, earning huge fees for selling me a product that wasn't right for me but earned them more money !
