Just listening to the final minutes of the Mayoral debate. One of the candidates has held his record of 40 years "building homes, creating jobs, managing transport systems etc etc" as the perfect experience required make one mayor.
Personally I can't think of anything worse. New, fresh & radical ideas are needed, just as much as the pig headedness to push them through when faced with resistance.

Which candidate has the fresh radical ideas then? Is there a secret candidate who fits this bill that I haven't heard of yet? I hope it's not That Paddick.0

Did anyone see the bit about housing?
All Boris could suggest was part buy part rent. Ken seemed to suggest there was nothing wrong with renting. The point about anything being affordable seemed to just be ignored. Alistair Stewart tried to bring them back to the affordability point, with little success.0 -

New radical ideas aren't necessarily the best in all cases.
Don't dispute that advances in industrialisation and technology can bring vast benefits and problem (e.g. mass unemployment) but when dealing with real live people issues change for change sake isn't always beneficial to any party.
Pig headedness + belligerence and arrogance people need to listen and heed good advice, short cuts will result in their fall."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Ken seems to think using the tube investment budget to lower fares will be a winner even tough it only gives to those who use public transport who are often richer than average whilst storing up problems down the line (sorry)...and yet that seems to be a wildly popular policy. Just goes to show you can bribe people with their own money...I think....0

I'm surprised people are stil naive enough to believe what they are saying to get people's votes. Haven't people learned from the Lib Dems and Tories propaganda in the last election.0

I'm so tired of, really truly exhausted by, the 'speed-dating' style of interviews, debates, and so on. People talking over each other (does no-one know how rude interrupting is, do presenters and interviewees not know how difficult it is to get a point across?).
So last night's 'speed-dating' the mayoral debate was a nonsense. All it revealed is that there doesn't appear to be a candidate which London deserves.
I 'like' Boris Johnson in that I a) don't live anywhere in London and b) he makes me smile, against Ken Livingstone who makes me sad, but I didn't think he came over very convincingly last night.
I suppose that Londoners are exposed to more media, leaflets etc, but in principle I think these televised debates are rubbish.0 -
What is the point of an elected Mayor - not just for London but for all the other cities they are trying to foist them on?
London may be arguable but for all the others isn't it just another cost to the taxpayer?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
