We took the Orient Express to Venice, had a night there before moving to the poshest hotel I've ever stayed at for 6 nights of R and R. Then we had 4 nights in Rome of sightseeing before finishing off in Sorrento for 3 nights to see Pompeii.

We're also going to Italy, 4 nights in Florence, 4 in Rome and 3 in Sorrento. Have you got any recommendations Zcrat?

Wow, everyone's stories sound amazing! I am quite jealous of all these hot places! I think I might have to push the other half nearer the time and find out what he has in store! It will be something in this coutry as we want to do America in the next few years ince we have a house (boring we know!!!) so this will be something just to chill out as a married couple before the wonders of work again!
Married my wonderful husband on 8/9/12 :j

Florence is a most beautiful city -I love it.

If you get chance go on the train to Pisa, the train ride is so scenic in parts and the leaning tower surreal, you can book in advance before you go if you want to go up the tower but it's not for you if you are frightened of heights.

The palace and gardens in Florence are lovely and so romantic, the duomo amazing to climb, and the markets fab for wandering.

Everyone's sounds amazing! We're most DEFINITELY going on honeymoon! Wedding on Sat, heading off to Rome on the Tuesday (10 weeks tomorrow!!) for 4 nights and then first class train to Lake Garda for a week :)
We haven't had a holiday in 2 years and once we're back I'll be straight back into thesis writing so I'm going to enjoy every second of it!

:j I can't wait. Hopefully shouldn't be *too* cold in September but we're not going for a suntan :rotfl:

We are having a couple of days away somewhere in the UK where we can relax and do our own thing.

I'm trying to convince h2b that glastonbury festival will be a great honeymoon 6 weeks after we get married.

    Have you been before Brightside?

I only ask because we went one year and it was very, very, very muddy. It was so much fun, but not in the slightest relaxing. Then the year after we tried to go and couldn't get tickets, tried all morning and it really upset me.

Not saying not to go, but maybe counting on it for your honeymoon is not the best idea, or perhaps have a back up plan?

I've been before and loved it, h2b hasn't but wants to go.

As we get married in May we would know long before the wedding if we had tickets. We are also having a couple of days away after the wedding, but can't afford Glastonbury and a honeymoon as it is so expensive.

    Hello!

You'll have a fabulous time. I don't know anything about Florence I'm afraid but some of the art you can see there is supposed to be amazing.

Rome - we stayed at http://www.baglionihotels.com/en?gclid=CILlyue8vK8CFVEjfAodeEv8kQ (The Rome one). Amazing and fabulous but not cheap. Tbh, nothing was cheap in Rome. By the end of the holiday we were saying "oh, look only 5 Euros for a coke, that's cheap"! If you're on a budget I'd stay away from that street entirely but on the other hand, you do feel glamorous in Rome and that's the place to be! We did all the historical stuff. (I've been before and have a degree in Ancient History so sent my OH up the wall by being his own personal tour guide!) Vatican museums are closed on Sunday. As we found when we walked for hours and hours to get there. When you do go on an open day, make sure you wear something covering your knees and shoulders and be prepared for very long walks inside the museums.

Can't beat the Coliseum - doesn't take too long to get in via the public qeue - despite what the students flogging special tickets nearby say. Spend time people watching round the Spanish steps and play the "how long can we be in Gucci before we get evils look". Just wonder down back streets and go into little churches off the beaten track. Eat Ice Cream. (Lots now the wedding diet is over!) My favourite bit of Rome - walking over the Palatine hill and the Pantheon finishing with a glass of something sparkling at Harry's bar.

Sorrento - we stayed http://www.exvitt.it/ Can't recommend this place enough. If you're not staying here it would be a fabulous place to come for a drink as it totally overlooks the bay. The entrance is this gorgeous flower haven just off the main square. We came to Sorrento mainly to see Pompeii - a life dream of mine and worth every minute. We spent about 7 hours there. If you go, go early. There's a train that runs round the bay and takes you from Sorrento to the actual excavations and it's dead cheap. By lunch it was sooooo busy and hot, the few hours we spent there in the peace and cool of the early morning remain some of the best of my life.

We didn't do much else here. I found Sorrento a bit touristy and South Italy is definitely rougher than the North. I was surprised by the povery in Naples. But my god, they know how to make pizza!

    Other tips?

You can't dress up too much in Italy - feel fabulous and smart on your honeymoon!

It'd be virtually impossible to go and not put on weight.

I'm very jealous - I'd love to do it again! I hope you have as good a trip as we did.
