What's in a number?

Hi :j

Any advice, really appreciated!

The last time I checked my file my credit score was 613, my OH has an excellent score. My question is will we get a mortgage if I have poor history but my OH has a perfect history?

When applying for a mortgage and they perform a credit search, each lender differs with there criteria but will they add my score and my OH's or will they see mine and refuse us despite his being excellent?

Also, does anyone know roughly what score you need to get accepted? I have a default from 2005 which was settled back then and now shows as satisifed, any views on a high street lender offering a mortgage for 1 settled default on file?

Thanks all - much appreciated.
Still in debt but with a positive attitude and enjoying watching it decrease each month.

You will be able to get a mortgage - which lender and what rate will depend on the exact details

I would think that you may have a chance of a high street lender offering you a mortgage. However rather than going direct, get a fee free whole of market adviser to do the leg work for you.

If you go direct and get declined by the lenders, all the credit searches they carry out, could affect your chnaces of a decent rate

I would also loke to know what sort of rating is acceptable? Does the score matter, as long as it is excellent, or good and is a fair rating ok, or a problem? Is it just a poor rating that is an issue? Just wanted some more info on this as I have run a credit check and mine is 948 - good. We are doing OH's this weekend are are expecting his to come out lower, as although we think he's ok on the financial side, he's not been on the electoral register for some years. When his score comes back, what should we be looking for and what should we worry about?

You should be ok Electoral roll absence usually means at worst the lender will ask for a bit more proof of residency. Dont worry just go for it
