Hey, no need to justify your spending when it comes to clothes for you! It must be safer for you to cover up anyway, unless you are thinking about having more kids....:p . No, seriously, it is important to treat yourself as well, good luck with the jumper shopping.SSB0

Next has gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woohoo!!
I have the boys suits for SIL's wedding so another thing less to buy!
I have paid most of this months bills now.. phew!!.. Just need another £550 to pay off the rest. I have a few bits coming out on Monday so I didn't want to spend all the money so I have left some available which will be paid off another debt once the 2x insurance and the bank loan come out.. won't be much left, but there will be something!
I have broken the £19K barrier now though which is fabulous.. (see updated siggy) ..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Wow pigpen, you are so brilliant at paying off debts AND feeding and clothing your family that I wonder how you got into problems in the first place!
Very very envious!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
I got into problems in the first place because we bought this house and had to feed and clothe everyone as well as make some of the rooms safe for the children to go in.. one room had no floor due to wet rot.. another was so wet due to the leaking guttering which we had to have fixed that we had to have the whole lot dry lined.
On top of that we gutted and refitted the kitchen and decorated a few rooms.. we had 2 christmas's, a baptism and lots of birthdays. I think we just stopped being careful and stopped thinking about what we were doing and just fell into the spend spend spend mode, mainly through necessity but there was a lot is needless spending in there.
I also found better ways of doing things.. cheaper, greener and more cost effective.. I make a lot of the childrens things which justifies Clarks shoe prices being paid.
the total debt does include my husbands student loan (£2000) and a loan (£6000) we got to use as part of the house deposit, there is also £1300 left (of £3000) which we borrowed from hubby's employers 6 years ago to pay off the negative equity from the house we had repossessed 10 years ago... it was the only way we could pay them off so we could buy somewhere decent to live. We were in a bedroomed council hovel with 8 children. That is most of it!! The rest is catalogue/credit card/utility bills stuff we need but don't and accrued in the last 20 months! Hi pigpen - completely understood, ours is a similar story of buying and doing up a house after living in a shabby flat (but with only four children in our case). Plus OH not working for some years. A large debt accrued mostly on necessities.
Well done you for turning the situation round so comprehensively. I am in awe of your progress as we do earn good money but I can't even get rid of my pesky overdraft let alone tackle the credit cards in your impressive fashionTotal debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
We have a £3000 overdraft in there as well.. As the interest rate on it is so very low it is the last thing I am tackling.. but I am claiming back my bank charges (£6000ish) so they will be used to pay off the overdraft.. or that is the idea anyway. The bank took my money so I get it back and pay them with it lol.. I am hoping the remainder of the bank charges after paying the OD will be enough to make an offer to the loan company (also the Abbey lol) and see if I can get rid of that in one go as well.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0

Hi Pigpen
you're doing so well i'm v impressed.
can totally relate to your experience, mine's almost the same. Had a house repossessed about 10 years ago and was housed on the most notorious council estate in town, was ok at first but then new neighbours moved in next door and made our lives hell - the kids couldn't play out without having stones thrown at them or being spat on! The council eventually moved us but the next house was not nearly big enough!
We then moved to the other side of the country an couldn't find anywhere to rent, so decided to try an buy again
Had to raise the deposit on my credit cards!!! and thn had an inflated interest rate on the mortgage because of the repossession!! An then as you say you have to sort out the house.....
Still I've got a grip now and am moving in the right direction... with a lot of inspiation form this site!
It's so good to hear others going through the same and getting there in the end.

PAY DAY TOMORROW!!!
I love payday.. I get really excited about paying my bills!! How sad am I???
Hubby said all I talk about now are the children, cleaning the house and paying the debts off.. what else is there in life???
I think if my OH reads just this bit of your thread he will think you are me, lol!
These are my typical topics of conversation too, though I do supplement them with an occasional moan about work!
You are doing great on your debt paying - congrats on getting below £20,000!0
