Public sector employment fell 37,000. 270,000 YOY.
Private sector employment has increaed 45,000 in the three final months of 2011.0 -
Smallest increase for nearly a year.
The rate of increase always slows before it starts to reverse. If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -

To complete the figures, private sector employment was up 226,000 YOY. The private sector is taking up the slack from the Government as an employer but is unable to deal with the increasing workforce too.
TBH this isn't terrible news as the changes are within margins of error so things are basically flat on the year as employment figures are only accurate to about 100,000.0 -

...
Ahh, the elephant in the room! An increasing workforce which can not be controlled by Government. An extra million people every 4 years or so.
We need to be creating 20K jobs surplus every month to stand still. That's a tough ask right now.0 -

Why this is a surprise to analysts I don't know. During a time of recession with job losses rife and many people applying for each position why are people going to demand, let alone get a large pay increase when most of them are happy to be in a job at all.0 -
Youth unemployment is a real problem and again proves what a failure the education system is in the UK.
Time for a major overhaul.0 -
And more figures again.
Once again, it's part time jobs which are contributing to the employed figures.
Part time employment rose 59,000 to 6.6m and fuill time employment fell 50,000.
The number in part time work because they could not find a full time job increased by 110,000. It's highest level since records began.
"The new jobs being created are mainly part-time. These jobs are not paying enough to replace the full-time earnings that people need,"0 -

You don't need major.
Pay the science and technology and maths teachers more than the geography, arts and creative dance teachers.
When the students see 'Miss Jones - Science head' turn up in her new Audi they will want to be like her.
Graduates in Mime Studies are not going to pull us out of this.
On the Politics show the Con MP made a comparison. 50% of Chinese grads are science/maths, compared to less than a 1/3 here. Applications for patents are up 1000% over there.0
