ccj advice and statute barred debt

Options
hi,

equidebt have contacted me this weekend for the first time since 2009 when i sent them a statute barred letter, i havent heard from them since. they are trying to say i made a payment in 2005 and my letter was null and void.
they also said a ccj was filed against me in 2001 for it.
i was only 22 at that time so had no idea what that meant, but i know i have not made any payments on that debt since 2003 hence why i sent the statute barred letter back in 2009.

can someone please advise me on what this ccj means? its not on my credit report.
also if they are saying i paid in 2005 can i not just reissue the letter now?
i know i havent paid them and i know full well there has been no acceptance of owing the debt by myself. why have the decided 3 years later to try and force me to pay again. i'm pretty sure they did this back in 2009 which is why i sent the letter then. i havent moved address since 2005 so they cant claim they couldnt get hold of me.

help please im confused. there is nothing on my credit report anymore btw

I'm not sure if I'm right and I'm sure one of regulars will correct me if I am wrong but surely this would be statue barred and maybe a prove it letter. If the CCJ was registered in 2001 then it will have dropped off your file.

At a guess the CCJ may well be a bluff.

If they had obtained a CCJ then it wouldn't actually be statute barred (as a CCJ can never be SB), but if its from that long ago then they could write to you to ask you to pay but if they tried to 'enforce' the CCJ (appoint bailiffs, attachement of earnings etc), they'd have to go back to court to get permission to do this - which is very very unlikely to be granted after 10years.

The 2005 payment could also well be ficticious, its not uncommon for payments to be made up, and if you know for certain you haven't paid then stick to your guns.

You say they contacted you this weekend - by letter or phone? if letter did they say about the CCJ and 05 payment in the letter or only by phone?

if they faked the payment in 2005. they are even dumber than normal they have just shown a clear 6 year gap. however if you don't remember a ccj. then challange it. if you do have a ccj its not barred.

Talk about dumb debt collectors, not only making up a payment, but making one up which would mean the debt is now statute barred on the basis of that made up payment as well rofl.

The golden rule with debt collectors is avoid speaking to them on the phone-unless you are one of the people who like to bait the DCA's lol, they lie and threaten and tell you any old rubbish to try to get cash out of you.

    Statute barred letter then. Again.

If they come back arguing about a CCJ - in writing - then ask them for proof.
