I am waiting for a huge bill from HMRC and so that's what I thought it was!

Means I still have to view all brown envelopes with suspicion until it arrives :D

    Hello Rochdale_Guy

Reading this thread is like the story of my 2011. Long story short all my cash was being soaked up by my debts, I was off sick from work and on a much smaller fixed salary. The bank couldn't help since I had freely given them my details and the debt was legit. So I was staying up past midnight till my wages were deposited then I would run to cash machine before the horrible companies got a chance to take it.

I've been in DMP for 9 months and sleeping peacefully for the first time in a long time. So I know it can be really scary and worrying right now. But once the ball is rolling, each month will get easier. Remember not to be bullied by words on paper, a good thing to do if you get nasty letters is to call the company immediatly and ask for explanation. Then ask for reference numbers to give the OFT and FSA for when you complain about them, you will never get another letter and they will be nice as pie about your DMP :rotfl:.

Bravo for putting up with what Life has thrown at you.:T

Good Luck for the future :D
  • What a night (and I don't mean Valentine's Day either :( )

Going crazy as my wage wasn't showing up as having gone into my old current account or the new Co-Op one at 1am

Got real stressed as there are 2-3 direct debits due to come on as well (today) on the 15th :(

Anyway, wages finally showed this morning in my old account, phew.

Noticed BT had tried to take their direct debit out the new account, yet there was no money it!

Went to the bank, withdrew a a big stash and paid it into the new Co-Op account, what a stress fest....

Phoned Co-Op who confirmed BT had tried to take the money out, but failed - so they advised me to to ring up BT. Has anyone done that lately?
    Bloody hell :(
15 minutes hanging on and then it was answered by some quiet voiced far away "agent", is that what they call them nowadays?!

They said the money HAS now come out of the new account, but don't believe them!

I shall wait and see what show in my online accounts.

Dreading the car insurance due in April now, as I have got nothing saved towards it :(

Something has gone badly wrong, and I should have started this DMP a lot earlier. I reckon it'll be £900+, which is bad enough, but I won't have that saved up and obviously don't have a credit card to pay it on anymore.

I have no choice but to find someone who lets you pay monthly, but they charge anything like an extra 20% :(

    Oh well. I'm screwed

    :(

  • Hi Rochdale Guy

Can you not pay your insurance via DD? They may charge you extra for this but at least you would not have to find the £900 straight away.

BT may well have reclaimed for money via the DD. Some companies do so I wouldn't worry too much. If the worst comes to the worst phone them back up tomorrow, and often they will accept a debit card payment as an alternative.

Good luck with sorting your debts out - it takes some time but the end result is fab!

Direct Line are doing car insurance by DD at 0% APR - worth a quote anyway :).

    Hi Rochdale Guy,

BT have told you your DD has been paid because they think it has been paid. Their systems update overnight so if I were you I'd call them back tomorrow.

Also, you may have already discussed this with the Co-op - but I'd ring them and ask if they will waive their fee the unpaid DD.

I know I don't need to tell you this but .... it's a busy, stressful time at the beginning of a DMP, writing letters and setting everything up but once it's all done everything should settle down. Just take control and keep on top of everything and it will all be fine :p

    Thankyou.

I can pay by monthly direct debit, if I can find someone cheap enough come April.

I just don't see why the money grabbing thieves charge you so much extra for paying month by month :(

As for road tax, why oh why can't you just pay for that in 12 monthly installments? :(

This DMP is gonna bring me to my knees...

Yes, thats good of them, but too early for me!

Hope they do it again in April (when I need to renew), actually they were one of the most expensive quotes I got though so I went with Admiral (the cheapest).

These are only minor hiccups! What you're going through in this first month isn't what goes on in a typical month.

I know it's hard but I think you need a bit of positive thinking - think how much better everything is going to be in 3 months.

Your posts make it seem like you consider a DMP hard work or a punishment, when in fact many if not most people find it allows them to get on with living.

    Thanks rubyjam

The Co-Op better not charge me fee for the unpaid D/D, as they have a dedicated switching team after all - aiding my move from the old account to their new one

The BT direct debit still shows as having come out the Co-Op account, (just checked on-line), but weird as the balance hasn't gone down!
