Well, the Council's housing stock was recently fully managed by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing on their behalf, but it is fully maintained by RBH now as it has just become a "mutual" after the tenants voted in favour of it.
Can't see them offering people money to downsize, can't they just try and force you out into a smaller property?
I was originally in one bed flat but kept having to complain about noise, drug smells and constant leaks and flooding from the 3 bed flats above and they let me move into an upstairs 3 bed flat, but before anyone moans, I do pay full rent for it.
Thanks rising from the ashes
They may well used to offer money to downsize as there was a government initiative that gave councils money to offer to people who downsized, but you will probably find this has now been stopped as the changes to HB mean a lot more people want/need to downsize anyway.Grocery challenge July £250

They know the housing benefit changes are coming in and will have to find ways to deal with it. Lodgers are an option people will have to consider. They may well used to offer money to downsize as there was a government initiative that gave councils money to offer to people who downsized, but you will probably find this has now been stopped as the changes to HB mean a lot more people want/need to downsize anyway.
Exactly - but in our area there aren't enough single bed properties to house all the single people, so they will need to do something to cover the cost of the housing benefit they will lose. If you are single and claiming JSA or ESA you get about £67 per week to live on. In our area you will have to find an extra £11 a week for one bed under occupied or £20 if you are 2 beds under occupied. That's a lot of money to find out of £67. I'm not prepared to live on benefits when my job goes, because that means my car and my house will have to go too, and let's be honest what sort of life can you have on that sort of money.DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

I'm also sorry to hear about your work situation, that is horrible
Hope things work out for you both.
Oh yeah, if you're coming to the UK, don't come to Rochdale to live!
Thanks mate. I went back to therapy when this all kicked off to talk it through, and have a place to sound off about it which really helped.
I mostly do OK now, but I have my 'wobbles'. Just holding on for a resolution with OH's work, or for him to decide to pack it in and leave, or a lottery win! lol
Huh, just remembered a part of my dream last night - my sister had won 1.4million on an online slots game and had decided to give me half! :rotfl::rotfl:Wishful thinking right there!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

What are you bothered about?
You don't have any money now, when that's kicked in you still won't have any money. Nothing's changed.0 -
